Year 7-9 iPad Program
2025
Reclaiming Conversation
In her 2015 book Reclaiming Conversation, Sherry Turkle identifies that due to an over-saturation with digital devices, young people have trouble displaying genuine empathy when relating to each other. As they move into the workforce or form adult relationships, this lack of social skill can have a negative effect, with the individual showing an inability to identify emotions and interact naturally with colleagues and friends.
iPad program, 2025
From 2023, Kolbe introduced school leased devices for our incoming Year 7 students. Families will not be required to bring your own devices.
Our aim for 2024:
To better utilise the iPad in an educational context, to promote learning, and to reduce distractions.
To teach our students to be better Global Citizens, and to maintain a focus on ‘empathy’, ‘collaboration’ and ‘resilience’ while engaging digital tools.
To better collaborate with our parent community in refining and improving the iPad program.
Apple ID's
Students will be required to be using their CEWA federated Apple ID. This allows teachers to use App's like Apple Classwork and Classroom to assign assessments and keep learning focused. Personal Apple ID will not be permitted on the devices.
Why support this?
The school iPad is a learning device (not a gaming or social media device). Under MDM, Kolbe is able to distribute apps, books and settings to each student, and limit distractions.
We have a unified management framework in place and we trust that every student and parent is prepared to support us with its implementation.
Becoming a Global Citizen
Kolbe are committed to empowering all students to have safer, more positive experiences online. We have developed a simple three year strategy to help us achieve this.
