About CESifo and the ifo Institute, Munich
CESifo is a global, independent research network with members from across the world. Members are prominent economists with a broad spectrum of specialisms, each of whom brings years of experience and a high level of expertise to our research areas.
Collectively, our mission is to advance international scientific knowledge exchange about economics and economic policy, to strengthen the cooperation between the ifo Institute and LMU Munich, and to maintain Munich as a vibrant hub of economic debate in Europe.
About the city of Munich

Public transport in Munich is safe and runs frequently. For your convenience, we recommend using the MVGO app for travel information and purchasing tickets in Munich’s public transport system:
From Munich Airport
Take the S-Bahn (high-speed local train link) to Ostbahnhof (9 stops, approximately 30 minutes). The S-Bahn is indicated with a round green S sign. There are two S-Bahn lines from the airport: S1 and S8. Please use the S8 (direction Herrsching) as this train route is shorter. Change at Ostbahnhof and take the 54 Bus (direction Münchner Freiheit) to Mauerkircherstrasse (7 stops, approximately 12 minutes). From Mauerkircherstrasse walk 10 minutes down the street. Poschingerstrasse is the second street on the left-hand side.
From Munich Main Station (Hauptbahnhof)
Take Tram 16 (direction St. Emmeram) and disembark at Mauerkircherstrasse. It is a further 10 min walk along Mauerkircherstraße, turn left into Poschingerstrasse.
Alternatively, take the underground (U4 direction Arabellapark) to Prinzregentenplatz. Exit and take the Bus 54/68 to Herkomerplatz or Mauerkircherstrasse.
Coming By Car
CESifo is located in the eastern part of Munich, in Bogenhausen. Free parking is availabe, but please note that this part lies in a low emission zone.
