Bursaries for Post-Secondary Studies in French
English-speaking Canadians enrolled in the first year of a college or university program have an opportunity to receive a $3,000 bursary to perfect their bilingualism while studying in a field of interest.
This new, yearly program was established by the Government of Canada. Its aim is to encourage young English-speaking students to pursue their postsecondary studies in French. The objective is simple: Allow a greater number of English-speaking Canadians to become bilingual.
ACPI's National Immersion Clip Contest is a yearly contest providing scholarships to students from grades 9-12. The contest challenges you to create a 30- 90 second video clip in French based on this year's theme "My Favorite Film or Book."
Students in grades 9-12 could win scholarships to four different Canadian universities.
The contest deadline is February 24, 2025.
Students in grades 10-12 can win one of 102 scholarships to continue their studies in French. $413,000 will be awarded in total, split between French as a first language and French as a second language categories. To enter, students must submit a National Essay Contest for a chance to win between $1,000 and $28,000 to study at one of the 16 partnering post-secondary institutions.

It aims to enhance linguistic diversity and cultural engagement within the university community. They offer a wide variety of programming options in French such as a Bachelor of Arts degree, Nursing programs, Education programs and African studies.

The major, minor, and honours in French Language, Literatures and Cultures are designed for students with intermediate or higher fluency in French language, who are interested in developing an appreciation for Francophone literatures and cultures around the world. The minor in French Language is designed for students with limited or no background in French, who are interested in developing a high level of communicative ability in French language for use in professional and academic contexts.
Glendon is the bilingual campus at York University in Toronto. They offer a wide variety of Undergraduate programs. The Glendon Bilingual Bachelor Degree is offered automatically across all disciplines. Students can study for a wide variety of careers in the following areas: International, Law & Public Policy, Business, Finance & Big Data analysis, Translation, Interpretation & Languages, Education and more.
Students who are unsure what they would like to study can even sign up for a first year exploration course that will allow them to explore courses from a variety of disciplines!
Saint Paul University (SPU), founded in 1848 and federated with the University of Ottawa since 1965, is a bilingual university located in Ottawa. While grounded in traditional disciplines like Canon Law, Philosophy, and Theology, SPU focuses on the human experience, offering programs in areas such as social communication, social innovation, and conflict studies. The university provides student support services, hosts events with experts, offers residence and library facilities, and is known for its small classes, personalized service, diverse student body, and Catholic intellectual tradition.
The University of Ottawa's French Immersion Stream is designed for Anglophone and Allophone students who wish to pursue part of their university studies in French. The Stream is offered in more than 80 undergraduate programs in the 6 direct-entry faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Science, Telfer School of Management. Students seeking a comfortable and truly immersive experience will take one-third of their courses taught in French throughout their program of study.
In Nova Scotia at Université Sainte-Anne you can earn a degree and learn French at the same time. The Integrated French Immersion Option allows you to count French credits towards your degree and graduate with no delay. This option is available in most programs.
The Integrated Option is intended for students who already possess a certain level of proficiency (e.g. students with a B1-level DELF diploma and/or students who have taken French Immersion or Intensive French in high school) and who wish to perfect their French.
The University of Moncton offers a wide variety of degree programs in French as well as a French Immersion program. The majority of high school graduates from Alberta's French immersion programs will meet the linguistic requirements of Université de Moncton. Applicants complete a French placement test upon registration.
The Université Laval is in Quebec city and offers a French Immersion pathway for 65 different programs in 7 different faculties. Programs are available in a variety of different fields that allow students to perfect their French while earning a dgree. Students take a french exam upon appliction that helps determine the number of French as a second language classes they will be required to take.
Francophone Universities in Canada
Université de Saint-Boniface is the only French-language university in the province of Manitoba, Canada and is the first postsecondary educational institution to be established in Western Canada. Today, it offers first-class general and specialized university degree programs as well as technical and professional training that enhances employability in the current job market.
Located in Sudbury Ontario, with 800 course sections offered in the French language each year, Laurentian University provides its students with specialisations, concentrations, majors and minors leading to 150 university degrees from the bachelor’s to the doctoral level in 43 disciplines. Six faculties are directly involved in offering French-language programs at Laurentian.
The Université de Sudbury emphasizes community and student support for academic and personal growth. With over a century of experience, its programs focus on practical skills for a changing job market. A partnership with the University of Ottawa strengthens its offerings. Starting in September 2025, the reinvented Université de Sudbury will welcome its first cohort.
Located in Hearst Ontario, Université de Hearst is a leading French-language university in Northern Ontario, known for its unique educational model. They focus on promoting French language and culture while offering innovative programs like block courses. The university emphasizes experiential learning, inclusion, and personal growth for its students.
The University of Montreal offers a wide variety of degree programs in both official languages. To study in French, applicants must be able to prove their proficiency upon registration. For some programs a DELF B2 level is acceptable. At the end of high school, many Alberta graduates exit the French Immerion program with a B2 level of proficiency. They also offer a program for students who would like to improve their language skills in order to attend the University and study in French.
Collège de l’Île offers French-language programs designed to meet the needs of the local and Canadian job market. In addition to its own training, the College also offers programs in collaboration with institutions such as the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB).
