This section focuses on the Chinook's Edge School Division's Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting of Student Learning Administrative Procedure. As educators in CESD, it's crucial to have a strong understanding of the principles that guide our assessment practices. This section will introduce you to key procedures outlined in the policy, providing a framework for your work in evaluating and reporting on student learning.
While this training primarily focuses on the practical application of PowerTeacher Pro, it's essential to ground our use of this tool within the broader context of our division's assessment philosophy. This section will highlight specific procedures from the policy and prompt you to consider how these principles might look in your classroom and how your use of PowerTeacher Pro can align with them. By understanding these guidelines, you can ensure your assessment and reporting practices are consistent with the values and expectations of Chinook's Edge School Division, ultimately supporting student success. Please take the time to carefully review the information presented in this module and reflect on the guiding questions provided.
Procedure 3 & 4:
Procedure 3: "The assessment and evaluation of student learning in Chinook’s Edge School Division schools shall be viewed as an ongoing process, serving both formative and summative functions."
Procedure 4: "A variety of assessment methods shall be used to ensure comprehensive, reliable and valid evaluation of student performance."
Guiding Question: "Balanced Assessment practices: What might this look like in your context?"
Procedure 5:
"Teachers shall ensure that students are informed about the learning targets, the standards or criteria that will be used for assessment, and the means of evaluation. In addition, parents or guardians shall have access to this same information."
Guiding Question: How might PowerTeacher Pro facilitate this? (e.g., assignment descriptions, categories, comments visible in the parent portal).
Procedure 6, 7 & 8:
Procedure 6: "The evaluation of student progress shall be based upon the curriculum outcomes as outlined in the Alberta Program of Studies.
Procedure 7: Grade practices must ensure the accurate measurement of learning and not behaviour.
Procedure 8: Teachers, under the leadership of the principal, will establish consistent, student success-driven processes to support and ensure completion of student work, and to develop and implement alternatives to zero through the pyramid of intervention."
Guiding Question: Balanced Assessment practices: How might you ensure that your assessment practices follow CESD's Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting of Student Learning Administrative Procedure?
Guiding Question: How does accurate category weighting (formative with no weight), clear assignment descriptions, and thoughtful comments in PTP align with these procedures?
