Weather and Safety Guidelines for Outdoor Sports
Weather and Safety Guidelines for Outdoor Sports
We continuously monitor weather conditions before and during outdoor activities. If rain makes the field unsafe or unsuitable for play, we may modify or cancel practices and games.
Lightning Safety: In the event that lightning is detected within 10 miles of the facility, all outdoor activities will be immediately paused. Participants will be moved to a safe indoor location, and activities will resume only after 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike.
Field Flooding: If the field becomes flooded, we will assess the situation and either reschedule or cancel activities, depending on the availability of the field and coaches.
Under 90°F
90°F –99°F
100°-104F
Over 105°F
Activities proceed as normal. Hydration is encouraged.
The intensity of activities is reduced, with more frequent water breaks.
Activities may be shortened or modified, with breaks every 15 minutes.
All outdoor activities will be canceled or rescheduled.
Hydration and Cooling:
Athletes are encouraged to bring water bottles and wear light, breathable clothing. We provide cooling stations and shaded areas when necessary.
We monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) daily to ensure safe outdoor conditions for all athletes. Here’s how we handle different AQI levels:
0-50 (Good)
51-100 (Moderate)
101-150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups)
151-200 (Unhealthy)
201-300 (Very Unhealthy)
301+ (Hazardous)
All outdoor activities are safe and will proceed as scheduled.
Sensitive individuals (e.g., asthma, allergies) may need to limit strenuous activity.
Reduced outdoor activity for athletes with respiratory conditions.
Outdoor activities may be limited. Indoor options will be considered.
All outdoor activities will be canceled or moved indoors.
Outdoor activities are canceled or rescheduled for a later date.
If your child has asthma or other respiratory conditions, please ensure they bring their medication or inhaler to all practices and games.
While we strive to keep all scheduled practices and games, weather and environmental conditions may occasionally require us to make adjustments. Here's our approach to rescheduling or canceling events:
Rescheduling: If weather conditions, field safety, or air quality prevent activities from proceeding as planned, we will make every effort to reschedule based on field availability and coach availability. We understand that disruptions are inconvenient, and we will work to ensure that missed practices or games are rescheduled when possible.
Cancellations: In some cases, it may be unavoidable to cancel an event without rescheduling, particularly when weather conditions persist or no alternative dates are available. While we will make every effort to avoid this, there may be situations where events cannot be rescheduled.
No Refund Policy: Once registration has closed, please note that no refunds or discounts on participation fees will be provided in the event of cancellations that cannot be rescheduled. We appreciate your understanding, as participation fees support the operational costs of the sports program.
Water and Gear: Ensure your child brings plenty of water to all practices and games and wears appropriate clothing for the weather.
Medical Considerations: If your child has asthma or other respiratory conditions, make sure they carry the necessary medications or inhalers.
Stay Updated: Regularly check your email for any updates or changes to the schedule.
We appreciate your support and cooperation in ensuring the safety of our athletes. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at athletics@centralvcs.org.
