Class syllabus 2025-6
Dear Students and Parents,
¡Saludos! ¡Bienvenidos! My name is Señora Gibson, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Spanish class and inform you of some of the important guidelines that need to be followed in order to be successful in this course. I will strive to keep the classes interesting and create a positive learning environment in order to realize success in learning a second language. Certain rules and guidelines are necessary for this process to occur. The following expectations are to be met by every student, whether in-class or virtually.
Be on time for class! Attendance will be taken the same way for in-class as well as virtual learning for FID days.
Bring all materials with you to class daily, including fully charged iPads, notebooks, and a pencil. The Google Classroom platform will be used to access your assignments, lessons, activities, homework, assessments, etc.
Google Classroom codes:
Block I Spanish 3 d6yb632
Block 2 Spanish 1 quw67zli
Mid-day B Spanish I 3dyhz5ix
Block IV Spanish 1 uqttq56t
The "Realidades" textbook and workbook series will be used via Google Classroom, which incorporates interactive activities using audio activities, videos, and computer websites.
Since language immersion is crucial for language learning, I mostly speak Spanish in the classroom. This will become second nature to you as the year progresses. In order to learn to communicate in Spanish, you must listen, read, write, and speak in Spanish as much as possible.
We will do our own work. DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE for your assignments, AI, or any other online translator. USE the vocabulary that has been given to you in class.
NO food or drink in the classroom. Only water is permitted.
Keep cell phones, AirPods, and headphones in your bookbags.
Per the student handbook, make sure all electronic devices are off during class time. No recording or taking photographs with electronic devices is permitted unless specifically instructed by the teacher. PA law states that recording anyone without permission is illegal.
A wooden hall pass is to be used for the bathroom. Please sign in and out when leaving the classroom during class.
Do not deface desks, bulletin boards, artesany, etc. Do not touch anything that is not yours.
Respect others at all times, in-class or during live lessons. Beyond your classroom, you are learning to be a global citizen. No teasing, bullying, or inappropriate language concerning anyone’s mistakes, pronunciation, beliefs, etc. will be tolerated. Mistakes are permitted: disrespect is NOT! No talking when someone else is talking. Raise your hand at all times to get permission to talk or to get out of your seat.
All homework must be completed. The value of each assignment varies. If the homework is not completed, students will receive a zero for every incomplete assignment. Homework assignments must be submitted at the beginning of class; no late assignments will be accepted.
Since the material we study is cumulative, do not let yourself get behind!
Once a student begins an exam or quiz, the student MUST finish the assessment. Assessment will be based on correct spelling, written accent marks, tildes, marks of punctuation, and capitalization.
** Correct spelling -1
** Written accent marks -½
** Tildes -1
** Marks of punctuation -½
** Capitalization -½
Assessment and evaluation at the end of the nine weeks will be based on oral and written tests, listening and reading comprehension activities, translation exercises and any other assigned projects. Assigned projects are not optional; they must be completed to meet the course requirements. If an assigned project is not turned in, the student will earn a zero for that project in addition to an incomplete at the end of the nine week marking period. The student will have 10 days to complete the project in order to receive a grade for the marking period. *No point value will be given for the completed project. There will be a cumulative final exam.
In case of absences, students need to:
Submit all homework
Ask for makeup assignments, which can be accessed on Showbie
Get missed notes
Make arrangements for making up missed assessments
One day’s absence: All work must be made up the day
after your return to school
Two days’ absence: All work must be made up two days
after your return to school.
More than two days’ absence: The student will need to
make any necessary arrangements with the teacher.
Late arrivals or early dismissals do not excuse a student from the class work, quizzes, or tests. It is the student’s responsibility to contact his/her teacher. Grades for that day will be assessed as a zero if the student does not fulfill his/her responsibilities.
Talking or cheating during tests will not be tolerated. Students will receive a zero in this situation and the teacher will indicate this infraction in PowerSchool. We will follow the school policy as set out in the student handbook. “Any student who is caught cheating will receive a zero for that particular test, quiz, project, assignment, etc. Any subsequent violation within the same class will bring about a ‘F’ for the grading period in that subject.”
Know the rules of the school district that are outlined in the handbook.
Tutoring will be available during academic study hall or you can send me an email with any questions or concerns. My email is rgibson@centralvalleysd.net
Please keep these guidelines for future reference.
