Biography:
My name is Mrs. Katkich and I have been teaching at Central Valley Middle School since 2025. As a self proclaimed Disney adult, basset hound lover, wife and mother -- these facets deeply influence and mold both my classroom and teaching philosophies. When I am not refereeing the most recent sibling argument within my home and humoring my husband's bantering of professional wrestling, you can find me as an active member of the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teacher's of English (WPCTE), where I serve as the WPCTE Poetry Slam Coordinator. You can also find me collaborating and creating programming for the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project, where I serve as a teaching fellow and member of their leadership team. Earning both my undergraduate (Secondary English Education) and graduate (Special Education 7-12) degrees from Slippery Rock University, I specialize in creating culturally-sustaining, student centered learning environments that encourage movement, creativity, and mindfulness. I have pioneered initiatives like Wellness Wednesdays to integrate mindfulness into education and I am a dedicated advocate for using spoken word and slam poetry to amplify student voices. I hold a deep commitment to fostering inclusive, engaging learning experiences that prepare students for life-long learning, the real world, and beyond!
