Painting 1

Ryan Riffel “Bear” 2021

My Idea was to paint a bear in its habitat. I wanted to make it look like the bear was crossing the river on a big log and think I did a decent job at portraying that. What was most difficult for me was drawing the log because I wanted to give it a 3D sort of look and didn’t know how to do that. If I could start over I’d still keep the bear but I’d put the bear in a cave instead of crossing the river. It’s realistic Art because it’s an actual bear. It’s unique to me because it’s simple but still pops out.

Ryan Riffel “ Portrait” 2021

I got my Idea of drawing a boy from us having to do a portrait as one of the 4 paintings we did. What was most difficult for me was getting all the colors to blend together and look good because there’s some parts are a little miss colored. I overcame some of the problem by painting multiple layers. The original color of my canvas was grey and I painted yellow over it so it took multiple coats to look decent. If i could start over I’d choose a new canvas because the one I did had a whole in it but i still decided to paint around it. This would be considered Realistic because it’s a portrait.

Artist Statement - “Deep Space”

Size, Canvas, 2021

My idea was to make a lightbulb and then incorporate it into a space theme background that included a big sun and purple asteroids. What gave me the idea was seeing the lightbulb and then I also wanted to do something involved with space so I just combined the two. The artwork doesn’t have a specific meaning but when people look at the painting I want them to think about space theme. At first I struggled with choosing a background color because I originally painted it gray, then green and finally decided on black. I think it’s unique to me because it’s not something you’re really gonna see a whole lot and I like illusions and cool things.
