Paul Kuehn, My masks name is Wild for Iowa State
My mask is 11 inches in length, 13.5 inches wide, and 2 inches tall. I used plaster, acrylic paint, and stars that are stickers. It is red paint on the right side and yellow on the left side. There is a red star on the left side and yellow star on the right side. My mask has 2 ears that I attach with plaster, and I made them by wrapping plaster around the wire. I got my idea from a picture I saw online from a tribe in Africa. I changed it by making the ears go out instead of going straight up. I wish I would have taken more time on smoothing out the plaster on the mask.
My batik art is called Hawaiian Flower. I chose to do my art on a 9x12 paper. My art is based on a Hawaii Hibiscus. Then on the right side is a fern, and on the left side there is a some diamond and triangle designs. Also on the left side there is a sun in the top corner. The materials I used were oil pastels, hot glue, and black watercolor paint. If I could change anything I would put more black watercolor paint in the bottom right hand corner. If I could add anything to my art I would make the triangles bigger so I can put more oil pastel in it.
Pencils and Paper
Paul Kuehn “The Litchen.”
9x12, pencils, paper, erasers, and paper.
My perspective drawing is on 9x12 paper. I used pencils, paper, blending tools, and erasers. In my drawing there is a table and two chairs. There is a couch with a rug in front of it. There is also cabinets above and under my table that has a sink in the middle of it. After I was done I shaded it and mad some spots darker and some spots lighter. I call it the Litchen because it has a couch like a family room and it has a sink like a kitchen. If I could change one thing I wouldn’t make it as dark as it is. If I could add one thing I would ad more details to things in the picture..
Paul Kuehn “The Pop.”
61/2x4, Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2017.
I call it the Pop because its just pops when you see it. I got the idea for my face by just brainstorming ideas. Then I thought that one look the coolest so I used that one. First I rolled out a slab of clay. Then I used a needle to sculpt out the shape of my face. Then we put it in a bag with water. Then we got them out and glazed. After we glazed we fired them. If I could change something I would have tried to really get in the small spaces more to get rid of the white that is there.
