Kylie Schmitt “JOY”
Big Bowl: 9 x 2.5, Medium Bowl: 7.75 x 1.75, Small Bowl: 7 x 1.5, Clay and Glaze, 2019
I was going to make 5 bowls and spell my name out. I was trying to think if i could do a 3 letter word and i thought of the word joy. What i tried that was new is i was just going to try 3 different color glaze and hoping that they went together and i tried to do the letters with free hand trying to get them to kind of match. The challenge that i faced was making the bowls and trying to get them to be different sizes and so i was looking around the room to find things to use to create the bowl size shape. I just kept trying different things to get the sizes that i liked. If i could change something it would have to be the tan im not sure if i like the way the color matches with the grey and lilac but other than that i don’t think that i would change anything else. I love that the bowls fit well together and i like that the smallest bowl has the “J” and then it spells out the word joy.
Kylie Schmitt “Wax Warmer”
4 x 4.5 x 9.5, Earthenware Clay, Glaze, Candle, and wax , 2019
I was thinking about making something that I would love to use. I was looking and looking and then I remembered that I like candles and scentsy pots and I was think if it would even work to make a wax warmer and Mrs. Butler and I were looking online. We couldn’t find anything that said that it would work. So, I just decided to choose to make it and see if it would work. I learned that you had to make things a little bit bigger than you wanted because when it goes into the kiln it would shrink a little. The challenge was when I let my wax warmer dry before it went into the kiln there was a few cracked and I was just hoping that it wouldn’t get bigger and it didn’t but the glaze just filled the cracks in. I feel like I would change the base color because I feel like it’s just a really plain color. I love that when I put the fake candle in the wax warmer you could see the light coming out of the wholes I put on the sides.
Kylie Schmitt “Work in progress”
29x15, Cardboard and hot glue, 2019
The reason why i wanted to do a pineapple is because of my uncle that commited suicide. When we were at his funeral if we needed a break we needed to say the word pineapple and someone would come and get us. What i tried was making the pieces look the same size but in reality they are all different in their own way. The challenge that i faced was trying to get as much done as i could but i didn’t quite get it all the way done. I feel like i would try to start the project sooner or just have someone do it with me because i didn’t have that much time to get it done and i was also gone a few of the working days. I love that it looks like it’s own little thing and it was coming out to look great.
