Isaac Blandin “Duality”11 x 14”, Marker, Ink, & Colored Pencil on Paper, 2019 While creating “duality”, my drawing of two intertwined foxes with doodle tails, I sought to create a take a subject from nature, but also bring a surreal, abstracted style into the otherwise real subject of the work. I wanted to bring two opposing styles and ideas into harmony within one image.
Coinciding with the opposing art styles, this work represents the idea of opposite ideologies and beliefs being able to co-exist in harmony. This was relevant to me due to the massive amount of division which exists in today’s society and politics where often you are pushed to pick one side and reject the other.
If I were able to start this work again from the beginning, I would want to change some of the color choices in order to match the two different medias better.
In this work, the part which I am most proud of is the ability of the doodle portion to create interest and keep the viewer in a rhythm while analyzing the work.
