Braeton Podoski "Utilitarian Vase 1"

6x4x4, Ceramic, 2021

I Got the idea to make this for either holding pens or for flowers. I first got the clay flattened out and then I used tools to cut it into the shapes I wanted. There really isn’t much of a meaning for this artwork; it is just a vase or holder. I was trying to make the shape as perfect as possible and that was probably one of the hardest things. This vase is functional.

Braeton Podoski "Utilitarian Vase 2"

8x6x6, Ceramic, 2021

This is my second vase of the Utilitarian project. I just cut the pieces and put them together. This is the second vase so it is part of a set. It was hard to get the surfaces flat and even. This is a functional vase but I might just display this one.

Braeton Podoski "Mysterious man"

14x9x14, Ceramic, 2021

My first idea was to make a face. I eventually decided I wanted the bust to be mysterious so I just left the face blank. I added a baseball cap on the guys too.I used bottles and newspaper and tape so I could form the clay around it to make the bust. This bust is basically for someone to use their imagination. For some people it might remind them of someone or maybe people don’t know what to think. The hat was probably the hardest part because I had a hard time shaping it. Eventually I got it with a little help. This bust is abstract because there are no facial features.
