High School Graphic Design II

Course Description & Photos

This semester course builds on the skills introduced in Graphic Design I, by developing a deeper understanding of what a career in graphic design entails. Students will develop their skills as a designer through the process of creating and selecting visual imagery and text that supports the goals, message, and target audience of a client. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of Design Elements & Principles, typography, and composition to create an effective design plan that clearly conveys a message, promotes a brand, or informs about an event. Students will document the process of developing ideas from brainstorming, sketching, revising, to the final product. The use of Photoshop CC, collaboration, communication skills, and time management will also be key components of this course. Along with the studio work, students will participate in critiques, complete written responses, artist statements, and create a comprehensive digital portfolio of their work. Art criticisms will focus on design-related works of art.
