Morgan Machovec “Blue River Vase”

3X3X7, Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2017

I got the idea from the other coiled vase in the art room.

I first started by making coils, then I used slip to connect the coils, I then let it dry and glazed it, the last thing I did was fire it.

One thing I would change about my vase is the shape, the vase is kinda lumpy and uneven so i would smooth it out.

One thing I love about the vase is the color. I wasn’t really sure how it would look with the vase shape but it turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

Morgan Machovec “Rainbow Cylinders”

6X3X3X2, Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2017

I got the idea when one of my projects didn't really work out so I had these cylinders that I could still use.

I made them by wedging the clay and then cutting squares into it and then rolling them and smoothing the edges out. I then connected them with slip and glazed them.

If I could change one thing I would probably change the shapes of some. I think the project would look better if there was other shapes that I connected with the cylinders like squares, rectangles, or maybe even ovals.

My favorite thing about it is the overall shape. I like how they are all mismatched and they all fit together well and how they are all at different levels.

Morgan Machovec “Butterfly Mask”

7X6.5X0, Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2017

I got the idea when I saw the mask molds and one of the masks looked really cool so I wanted to do it.

I made it by wedging the clay and then putting it on top of the mask and then putting slip on the cracks so the cracks wouldn’t break the mask. I then fired and glazed it.

If I could change one thing it would be the color. When I looked up the glaze it was more of a blue than brown.

I love how it is so small and smooth. It looks really shiny and the shape is good. It was probably one of the best shapes I have done.

Morgan Machovec “Colored bowls”

5X3X3, Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2017

I got the idea from the mold I picked. The mold was simple which I liked since I wanted to start with something easy.

I first made my slip then poured it into the mold and then dumped it all out so it outlined the mold. I then waited for it to dry and smoothed out any uneven parts. My last steps were glazing the bowls then firing them.

If I could change one thing it would be the color of the purple bowl, I thought it was going to be more of a fuchsia color but it turned out purple.

One thing I love about it is the other bowls light blue color, it turned out really good and a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

Morgan Machovec “Blue Glass”

4X6X6, Earthenware Clay adhesive beads, jewels, and glass, 2017

I got the idea when it broke down the middle and I had half of it still in tact.

I wedged the clay first, put it over the mask mold, and let it dry. I then painted it so it would have a purple background. I then set the glass in place and hot glued them. I put hot glue in the spaces between the glass and poured tiny beads into the spaces.

One thing I would change is to make it a full mask and not just half of one. I would like it to be bigger since it is so pretty.

My favorite thing about it is the placement of the jewels. They look really good together and they all look like they fit together. The contrast of big and small jewels especially looks good.
