The OSDA recognizes that generative AI provides educational opportunities for students and is expanding in its applications. While generative AI can be used to guide students to articles, ideas, and sources, the OSDA asserts that using or paraphrasing text from generative AI as a student’s original work in competition is a violation of the OSDA’s ethical standards. Additionally, text from generative AI cannot be used as evidence in a round (debate, congress, extemp). The original source of any quoted or paraphrased evidence must be available if requested.
Generative AI may not be used at any time during a debate round, during a Congressional Debate session, or during Extemporaneous Speaking preparation time.

Please take a look at this series of 15 videos, each lasting only 15 minutes, explaining Congressional Debate from a former National Championship. Additionally, she was voted as outstanding PO at Nationals, so that gave her a scholarship to college. She developed an outstanding method of explaining and teaching Congress.
After graduating, she created a company to share those insights and skills though a YouTube Channel. The first link here explains her experience and motivation for creating the business How to Congress.
I have watched the videos, and they cover everything from analyzing the docket/legislation to being a Presiding Officer. I am taking the time to post this because I think it's THAT GOOD. I wish our team was like others--where a single coach covers only one or two categories. Then I would have more time to spend with you to help you grow and succeed. However, I coach 10 categories, and just don't have the ability to devote two hours a day to each of those specific areas. So, here is a way for you to LEARN and then I can coach when we are together or you sign up for an online Zoom Session.

How to Be the Presiding Officer
The sources provide comprehensive guidelines for Congressional Debate, focusing on the structure and content of effective student-written legislation, primarily in the form of a bill. They explain that successful legislation must address domestic issues within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress, exhibit a seriousness of purpose, and include specific details regarding implementation, funding, and enforcement by relevant government agencies. Additionally, the texts outline the formal parliamentary procedure and tournament rules, including how speakers are recognized based on the recency method, the time limits for speeches and questioning, and the correct processes for proposing amendments and taking recorded votes. Finally, the source offers examples of well-written and poorly written bills to illustrate the necessity of presenting a clear, specific, and constitutionally sound national policy for substantive debate.

HOW TO PREP AN EXTEMP SPEECH
Each month, two-time national champion Jacqueline Wei uses a monthly NSDA practice question to prep for and deliver a speech on camera.
Extempers, do the same and then compare and contrast your analysis, organization and delivery with an expert! Make note of what you need to work on. Check out the videos from February and March!
