Welcome to the 8th grade Accelerated Thinking and Enrichment Class! I hope that you are all as excited as I am for the beginning of this new school year! The following information will offer you a general idea of what to expect from this class; however, I reserve the right to mold this class around the individual needs of the students, which means that our focus may shift in various and unnamed directions at times...and that's usually when we have the most fun, and the best learning occurs! I hope you are prepared to be challenged through a variety of opportunities this year in the gifted class!

Time Management & Organization: You will be learning about the importance of being aware, managing time, and staying organized, as well as practicing different methods of keeping track of your own goals that you'll set based on your own definition of success!

Empathy vs. Sympathy: You will move through modules designed to help you identify, understand, and practice empathy, differentiating between empathy and sympathy, and putting yourself in someone else's shoes.

Independent Goals: You will be choosing subject areas, topics, and goals that you would like to work to complete this year. We will meet together once every two weeks, outside of class time, to review the progress that was made and to then plan how to effectively move forward. Purpose:The purpose of developing independent goals is to provide students the opportunity to further explore areas of interest. Students can work on these goals throughout the school day, if they finish their class work ahead of their peers.
