Every project that we do has significant meaning and purpose.
We use design thinking often and implement OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) into our learning to help us expand and use our leadership, customer service, design, and communication skills to serve others.
Leadership Evaluation: Every two weeks, we have a student-led conference with Mrs. Poncio and go over our Leadership Evaluation Form. This is a form we use to record our technology help, major projects, daily tasks, service calls, and reading. The rubric helps us to assess our performance over the two-week period and helps us set small measurable goals in class as well as personally. We give ourselves a grade and validate why we think it is what we earned. This student-led conference where we spend one-on-one time with Mrs. Poncio allows us to reflect on our performance with the technology, the customers, our growth, and helps us set future goals.
We are involved with the YOUTHMAX program to expand our leadership skills and reach our own personal goals. We meet with a certified John Maxwell trainer once a week over the course of 9 weeks in both the fall and spring. The Celina Chamber of Commerce sponsors our students so they have the opportunity to complete book studies together and work through specific curriculum that helps us to bond as a team as well as become leaders! SWAT members meet during lunch for training each week.
Teacher Professional Development: PD, also known as Lunch and Learns, are bimonthly collaborative meetings offered to teachers by Mrs. Poncio. Digital tools, technology integration with curriculum, T-TESS and TEKS are the focus for each meeting. SWAT puts together special student-led sessions throughout the year in addition to how-to videos and one-on-one technology help! Students design and lead sessions using their knowledge from the course!
Our Tuesday Tips with SWAT are posted weekly to our social media accounts and throughout the school. We create these tips to make the lives of our students, teachers, and administrators easier and more productive. Our design team uses Canva to quickly and easily create graphics for posters and social media posts.
Adopt-a-Teacher is a program we started in Spring 2018. SWAT members choose teachers on campus to "adopt" and meet with those teachers weekly to build a co-learning relationship and assist them with any G Suite or technology implementation projects with the guidance of Mrs. Poncio.
Our How-To Videos primarily serve as easily accessible, detailed, and concise responses to common inquiries or technology issues among teachers and students. Whenever a frequently encountered question or issue comes to our attention, we create a video or Tech Tip covering the topic and share it on our website, social media platforms, and on our YouTube channel.
Our Social Media accounts work best for us when we need to post announcements, send out tech tips, or create fun contests and giveaways. We also post weekly tech puns to give our students an opportunity to learn while having a laugh.
We take the Google Certified Educator Level I Exam to better assist teachers with G Suite for Education. Our team is committed to taking advantage of any and all opportunities that will allow us to better serve our students, teachers and administrators.
For this purpose, we begin rigorously studying in October and take the exam no later than December.
We have two members who are Level II Certified this year!
Laptop and iPad Pickup and Distribution are the first big tests as a new SWAT member. The days are long, the process is tedious, and our customer service must be on point. We quickly learn how to work together, how to lean on patience, and how to handle any situation, professionally.
