A FREE, TWO-DAY CONFERENCE ON ZOOM
Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1
Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) presents a two-day Professional Learning Conference held virtually over Zoom. The Conference includes inspiring lectures from nationally recognized arts educators, and hands-on workshops for classroom teachers of grades K-8 students with IEPs (and General Education teachers) from across the country. Participants will gain an understanding of the effectiveness of utilizing an arts-integrated, differentiated approach to teaching literacy and learn easy-to-implement projects in VISUAL ART and MUSIC that directly teach LITERACY.

During the Conference, participants will explore how to effecively use the arts to teach literacy. They will learn music and visual art skills, concepts, and techniques and will customize and differentiate arts-integrated projects to meet the specific needs of their students, with varying learning levels in heterogeneous classrooms. Overall, the Meridian curricula and projects enable teachers to differentiate instruction at each step of every project in order to challenge every student at their level — from students working towards the standards with cognitive challenges to those performing on grade level with emotional challenges.
The Meridian literacy projects, through music and visual art, address reading comprehension using nonfiction text, writing, vocabulary development, speaking, and listening skills. Participants will also have access to CEI's highly differentiated instructional materials, including curriculum maps, lesson plans, student worksheets, classroom-implementation slide decks and project resource guides.

CEI MERIDIAN and CEI MERIDIANUSA are programs funded by Assistance for Arts Education (AAE) grants awarded to The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) by the United States Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The CEI MERIDIAN and CEI MERIDIANUSA programs are professional learning programs for teachers of K-8 self-contained classrooms of students with IEPs. The programs utilizes an innovative arts integration approach, aligned with standards and skills, that incorporates six levels of differentiated instruction and utilizes VISUAL ART and MUSIC as effective instructional strategies to directly teach literacy and mathematics skills.
Both programs
produce arts-integrated, differentiated curricula that use visual art and music to directly teach literacy;
provide hands-on programming to K-8 teachers of students with IEPs, providing them with professional learning workshops, PLCs, project modeling videos, and teacher leader training;
host arts education conferences for teachers nationally every summer; and
create a web-based resource library of arts-integrated, differentiated curricular materials to share with teachers nationally.
Now in its fifth year, CEI Meridian is a national, arts-integration professional learning program for classroom teachers of grades K-2 students with IEPs. The program uses music and visual art as effective instructional strategies to directly teach math and literacy. It is funded by an Assistance for Arts Education grant from the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education of the United States Department of Education.
In its first year, CEI Meridian USA is a national, arts-integrated professional learning program for classroom teachers of grades 6-8 students with IEPs. The program focuses on literacy with a social studies content focus U.S history and patriotic education. The program uses music and visual art to directly teach literacy skills. It is funded by an Assistance for Arts Education grant from the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education of the United States Department of Education.
