Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Auditions

Welcome! I want to thank you for considering auditioning for one of Cedarville University's instrumental ensembles, including Jazz Band, University Orchestra (winds/percussion only) and Wind Symphony. If you want to know more about our groups, how much time is involved, and the audition process, go here.  Non-music majors are HIGHLY encouraged to audition. Our ensembles have more than 50% non-music majors, and we want you to be a part of them!

If you are interested in the Wind Symphony, or Orchestra (winds and percussion only), prepare the Wind Symphony excerpts. If you are interested in Jazz Band, choose that option. You can audition and perform in any number of ensembles you want. Just prepare each audition per its instructions.

About our bands:

The CU Wind Symphony plays a wide variety of music, and consistently participates in the commissioning of new works for bands. Past and future commissions include composers David Maslanka, Steven Bryant, Julia Wolfe, Jennifer Higdon, Nicole Piunno, Erica Svanoe, Stephen Gryc, and Joseph Turrin.

Our concerts over the past few years have featured works such as John Mackey's Wine Dark Sea - Symphony for Band, David Maslanka's Symphony No. 4 and 10, Steven Bryant's Automatic Earth, Omar Thomas' Come Sunday and classics such as Antonin Dvorak's Serenade for Winds, William Schuman's George Washington Bridge, and Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy.

The CU Jazz Band performs music from the Swing Era to modern day, as well as commissioned arrangements. Along with its normal on-campus concert schedule, the band has performed at festivals, military events, schools and churches. 

The Jazz Band focuses on playing repertoire of great big bands across the ages, featuring charts from the bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Beny Goodman, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and modern bands like Gordon Goodwin and the Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra.
