Overview
STAAR Alternate 2 is an assessment based on alternate academic standards and is designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities receiving special education services. STAAR Alternate 2 was developed to meet federal requirements of both the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The assessment consists of 24 scripted questions. The test materials include:
a test administrator booklet with the scripted questions and administrations guidelines
a student booklet that contains stimulus images and text needed for the student to select answers
Testing Window: March 30 - April 29, 2022
COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS - SPRING 2022
All campuses will begin assessments on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
Student responses and accommodations will be submitted in the management system by the end of the day on Friday of the same week the test was completed.
As much as possible, we will work to achieve or exceed the following completion rates:
By April 1 - 20% complete and entered in TIDE
By April 8 - 50% complete and entered in TIDE
By April 14 - 75% complete and entered in TIDE
By April 29 - 100% complete and entered in TIDE
STATE TESTING
Test administrators must be provided a copy of the non-secure front matter of the 2021 STAAR Alternate 2 Test Administrator Manual prior to attending training. The manual will be posted on TEA's STAAR Alternate 2 website.
