The CEA ALANA organization was established in 2019, when a group of 9 CEA members realized that there was a need for increased representation of the populations of color we serve and those members who may want and benefit from increased support and recognition in CPS. We have a broad, diverse grouping of students who are from other countries, whether by choice or by unforeseeable circumstances. We hope to serve and support all aspects of our population, especially when it comes to representation. Currently, our professional population is nowhere near reflective of the students and families we serve. ALANA is looking to raise awareness of local, state and national issues related to equity and policy affecting BIPOC populations. We have begun collaborating within our own organization by focusing on providing support to our educators of color and of different cultural backgrounds. We have had some opportunities to begin collaborating with the City of Chicopee and hope to further our opportunity to help others.
