I use a points-based system to calculate grades in my classes. Each assignment is worth a set number of points, and final grades are calculated by dividing the number of points earned on all assignments by the total number of points available for all assignments.
I update PowerSchool at least once per week, so students should always have an idea of how they are doing with the content. Assignments past due and not turned in will be marked with an orange flag on PowerSchool until the missing work is turned in. All assignments within each unit must be completed before the unit test is taken. Any assignment not completed will receive a 0.
Tests/Projects (usually worth 30-50 points)
Quizzes (usually worth 15-25 points)
Test and Quiz Corrections can be submitted to earn back half credit on incorrect answers, as long as all work is shown and accurate.
Classwork/Homework/Participation (usually worth anywhere between 5-20 points, depending on the size and length of assignment)
If a student is missing multiple assignments, I will send an email to the student and copy their parent/guardian. If assignments are still missing after a week, a detention will be issued.
IXL codes will be assigned for every topic in math class. Students must earn a SmartScore of 90 or more on each assigned code to receive full credit.
The grade breakdown is as follows:
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 75-84
D: 70-74
F: 0-69
