Working

What was working in the ghettos like?

For the people working in the ghettos, they would work whenever they were able to. They had long and hard days, because they would sometimes work from ten to twelve hours a day. The work permit they received would only give them a slightly bigger food ration which would only give them a small amount of extra food.

What did they do for work?

Some of the things that people in the ghettos did for work were repair old clothing, and created new things such as wooden and leather shoes, ammunition boxes, mattresses, and baskets and brooms. The ghettos probably would not have been able to function without these items that the people were creating while they were in the ghettos.
