In round three the focus of our videos is multi-faceted. After looking at early videos it was determined that we needed to work towards several things:
Diversifying our stories: In this round, students were encouraged to look past our classroom and find stories from around the school.
Fine tune interview skills: After learning more about what makes a good interview and who should be interviewed, students have been working on asking good questions and interviewing a variety of people for each story- even reaching out and interviewing people who they might not have known before. It has been a real "step outside your comfort zone" moment!
Incorporate a focus on b-roll: B-roll is the additional footage that often plays while the interview is running. B-roll is intended to show what the interviewee is talking about. For example, when including and interview with a basketball coach, b-roll might be footage of a game or practice that demonstrates what the coach is talking about.
A serious approach to editing: After watching the videos from the first two rounds it was acknowledged that in many of the videos there was a "silly lens" being used- intentionally making the video silly by adding unrelated graphics, sound effects, and/or clips that otherwise are not related to the topic of the video. Funny is fine, but it needs to be a part of the story.
Go ahead and take a watch, I think you will find many accomplished the goals of this round. You can learn about a couple new teachers, an excellent partnership, winter sports, and a few middles school projects that have happened over the last month or so. Enjoy!
The fifth and first grade partnered up on an awesome reading project this fall. These two grades have been partnering up as reading buddies for a while now, and in November the idea for each reading group to design a "parade balloon" based on a character from a book they'd read. After several work sessions, the parade was held on the last day of school before Thanksgiving, during the pep rally. Rumor has is the teacher's have already been thinkoing about how to make it bigger and better next year!
This video showcases our new first grade teacher, Mrs. Willey. If you haven't met her yet, here is your chance!
Welcome, Mrs. Willey, we are so happy to have you here!
Back this year with a different angle- the STEAM food projects! Students chose a region of the United States and researched a regional Thanksgiving dish. It was a delicious way to wrap up STEAM before Thanksgiving break.
Check out the CDS girls basketball team! This video highlights the sport, the players, and the coach.
Our own Mrs. Stone made a big move from being the technology teacher to the whole school to teaching just one grade level- third grade! Find out how she is doing in her new role.
For the third year in a row the eighth grade has selected a few teachers whose doors we cover with Christmas. This year was one of the biggest and the doors did not disappoint! Some teachers love them so much they keep them up for the rest of the year!
A few students thought it would be good to have a video students and families could use to remind themselves of what they need to be ready for their days of outdoor education during winter. These students couldn't stop there, though! They give a pretty good idea of what outdoor education is like in general, and interview a fourth grader to see what they think it is going to be like.
