The 6 Camps

Auschwitz

Auschwitz was a death and concentration camp and was operated though 1940-1945. It was built in Poland out of 11 million men, woman, and children ended up being murdered through out the holocaust, and 6 million of them were killed at Auschwitz. Those that died there either died from the gas chamber, starvation, disease, labor, or from experiments.

Belzec

Belzec began in 1941 and had 3 gas chambers. It was a small camp and was responsible for the murder of 600,000 people, which were mainly Jewish people. The first few weeks Belzec started, it had killed more than 80,000 Jews. Since Belzec was more a labor camp, the Nazis keep up to a thousand Jewish men help unload and clean the trains.

Chelmno

Chelmno was the first camp to install the gas chambers to murder Jews. 320,000 people were murder in Chelmno, which mostly include Jews. The first group of victims arrived at Chelmno on December 7, 1941. In 1943 the camp was dismantled because all of the Jewish in the area where all killed. In 1944 the camp was destroyed to hide up all the evidence of mass murder.

Majdanek

Majdanek also lasted for a short period of time and was a labor and a death camp. The camp started in 1941 and killed about 360,000 people. 120,000 of the dead were Jewish. Majdanek was 667 acres and was outlined electrified barbed wire fence. On November 3, 1943, 18,000 people were killed in one single day. Victims were shot in big pits. While the Nazis were doing this, they would play loud music to keep the noise down from the killings. During July 1944 the Nazis burned down the crematorium to cover up the evidence of the dead. They also tried to burn down the gas chambers, but was too late and got caught.

Sobibor

Sobibor was just made to kill people. Is was a small camp, and killed over a half million people, also that were mainly Jewish. There were 7 successful escapes at Sobibor, lead by Leon Feldhendler. On October 14, 1943, the prisoners ended up killing 11 SS men and 11 Ukrainian guards. A little over 300 prisoners managed to escape, but most of them were captured and send right to death. Only 50 out of 300 people that escaped, ended up living through the war. Sobibor also ended up getting destroyed.


Treblinka

Treblinka was also made just to kill people. Treblinka managed to kill over 876,000 people, and 254,000 of them were Jewish. There was also several attempts to escape for Treblinka, but most of them failed. The 750 Jewish people that tried to escape ended up being killed. The buildings at Treblinka ended up being destroyed and was turned back into farm land.
