History and Philosophy
Sts. Peter & Paul School was formed in 1989 as a result of the merger of the St. Peter School, founded in 1955, and St. Paul school, founded in 1913. Sts. Peter & Paul School serves the partner parishes of St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Peter Claver, St. Luke, Holy Spirit (UK Newman Center) and Pax Christi. All of the parishes are in Lexington, Kentucky except St. Luke, which is in Nicholasville, Kentucky. In 1996 growth allowed the middle school to move back to the original St. Paul School building on Short Street. In 2007 renovations at the original St. Paul began and the middle school was temporarily moved to the Marquis Street Campus in the Chevy Chase area. In August 2010, the elementary and middle school campuses combined in the renovated and enlarged campus at Short Street and the Early Childhood Center on Barr Street was opened. Sts. Peter & Paul’s campuses are in historic downtown Lexington, an area where students have walking access to many historic, arts and cultural activities. The Sts. Peter & Paul Early Childhood Center serves children six weeks of age through Preschool (IM3) while the Short Street Campus houses Preschool (PreK4)through 8th grade.
Christ is the inspiration and foundation for Sts. Peter & Paul Regional Catholic School. This school is committed to: fostering Catholic values and embracing diversity; academic excellence and rigor through an arts-infused curriculum; and differentiated instruction for each child to attain his or her full potential. We value the collaboration with our community and partner parishes as we develop faith-filled, life-long learners.
