This is a drawing of my friend Logyn. I got the idea from needing to make a portrait of someone, and I thought Logyn would let me draw him so I asked, and he said yes. I think the picture we chose of him was from state bowling. I started with just a grid on paper, I slowly started drawing the outline of his head and went from there, after I was done with that I started with the pastels. I started with his face, specifically his skin color, I used a lot of yellow, pink, white, and yellow. Then I started in on his hair, which was the easiest part. Getting his face right proved to be difficult. I used my fingers to spread the pastel. I want my audience to think that Logyn looked like a person and not just a scribble on a page. His face was the most difficult, it was the first time I ever tried to draw someones face. I asked for some tips from Ms. Garrity and that helped me through the rest of it. I'd probably try and change the order of how I drew him. I tried to be realistic to the best of my ability, the mistakes definetly making it my own. I like the way his mouth looks, it's the most realistic
The idea was from a picture I took in Ruby Falls cave, it's a cave in Chattanoooga Tennessee. The story behind the cave is romantic if you ever get a chance to see it. But the big attraction for the cave is it's waterfall deep inside the cave, they have color changing lights by it and that's when I snapped the photo. I chose this picture because I thought it would be fun to draw. I started with an outline of the waterfall and I found the hardest part was the opening to the waterfall. I then started using oil pastels to get the colors in, I found it difficult to get the right color, especially for the rocks. So I tried my best to blend it a bit but it didn't work very well in my opinion. I want my audience to think the drawing looks like a normal waterfall because honestly I don't know if anyone could tell it is. I found the tools that I used for this drawing more difficult to use then other media I've used in the past. I found that the oil pastels I used were hard for me to color the waterfall and especially the color changing lights. I'd probably use a lighter color for the color changing lights to better. An attempt at realism, I like the way the entrance turned out.
