I wanted to make a recurve-style Roman vase to be able to add Roman numerals to it. I tried going for a colorful dripping galaxy glaze cover over the top and inside of the vase as if a weird substance was leaking out of the top and over the sides. I started off wedging four squares of clay for this piece. I proceeded to slam the clay down and center it. Next, I started to make the clay rise and fall to get an easy-working clay. Next, I started shaping my vase making sure to leave extra clay for the top ( one of my common mistakes of forgetting to). Once I had my desired shape I left it to dry for a little bit of time and came back to use metal tools to carve and smoothen out the outside. Once it dried out and was fired I added the undercoat of glaze for the galaxy-like glaze to drip over. I did three underlayers and drizzled the glaze over it thickly. When It had been fired I was very satisfied with my vase. somethings I wish I had done was cover the under glaze more because there are some rough spots were the glaze meets the drizzle.

I did not plan much for this piece it was a work in progress. I tried making a small cute vase but I was inspired to add a skull imprint and the dark fire-like colors. I started off by wedging my clay, slamming it onto the wheel for good grip, and proceeded to stretch the clay up and down for easier working clay. I tried to make a curved rim but I ended up trimming it off what it was done drying. Once it was done firing I added this sparkly and black glaze to the inside of the bowl and A mixture of blacks on the outside. Once those layers were dry I drizzled orange and red glaze over it with slashes here and there to make a firey leaf design. The results are better then I could expect. If I could do one thing over I would add a more firie design instead of flashes if I know it would go that well in the kiln.

I really wanted to make a small quick vase that looked like an ern/regular pot. I started off by wedging my clay, slamming it onto the wheel for good grip, and proceeded to stretch the clay up and down for easier working clay. I used the tips of my fingers to make this very small rising vase. The glazes I chose after firing were to represent the earth and the natural elements that were blended into the pot. The rising earth look on the bottom really makes it look rustic and it corroded, slowly taking over the pot. If I could do something different it would be to make the rim less chipped and more smooth.

Fluorescent Wisp

I got my inspiration from some genie-type bottles and really wanted it to look like a red vase covered in dust and cobwebs, to make it look old and abandoned. I started off by wedging my clay, slamming it onto the wheel for good grip, and proceeded to stretch the clay up and down for easier working clay. I started by making a Florence flask shape and trying to make the bottom more circular. The vase is very heavy because I was not able to shave and carve out the bottom because the entrance is too narrow. When I let it dry for a little bit, I decided to make it straight and less round but still keep the basic shape. I wanted to make a wispy genie bottle type of vase that explains the red and purple jew-like colors with a smoky look taking over most of the vase. I Could change anything it would to mix more colorful versions of red and purple into it to give it more variety and a trapped spirit look.

I had an idea to make a flower vase for my mother that she could put on her counter. I thought a green earth-like color would go well with the flowers at the time.  I started off by wedging my clay, slamming it onto the wheel for good grip, and proceeded to stretch the clay up and down for easier working clay. I started to cone up straight and semi-narrow. Originally  I tried to make the top cone inwards but the clay would thicken in one area and would destroy it if I tried anymore. I wanted to go with plant-like colors to go with the fact that it was a flower vase. If I could do one thing differently It would be to make it bigger to allow more flowers and more balance

I really wanted to make a Roman/Greek pot depicting a scene within the glaze.  I started off by wedging my clay, slamming it onto the wheel for good grip, and proceeded to stretch the clay up and down for easier working clay. I started to make the walls wider and taller while making the base smaller for that classical look. When it had dried a little bit I made handles for it and attached them. A day later I started to trim off the handles for the design. After finally being happy with the outcome I put it in the back room to dry. Sadly I Had forgotten to dig out the bottom of the pot which was really thick and ended up exploding in the kiln. Looking back there are a lot of things I could of changed and I look forward to giving it another go next semester.
