Jack Brassard - "Space Light"
(Estimated) 9x9 - Paint - September 2023
My painting doesn't convey much, but it's supposed to be my personal one. I'd like to argue that it's personal because I like space and i think a cool blue light coming from the center of some space vortex would be cool. However, we have to add some sort of "deep meaning" to every painting I make in this class. So I don't know, maybe it symbolizes my identity or rough childhood or whatever it is. I don't know, if you want a meaning dig into it yourself, buddy boy. I made it with basic paints a bit of mixing them around and junk. It's more fun if you have something to listen to, but near the end my headphones broke and the deafening silence of the painting room kinda hit me like a brick. It's a good motivation sucker, if you ever need it.
Bagel Observation - "Burngel"
Jack Brassard - Paint - 11/7/23
I saw the bagel in the pile of photos we can use for our observation project and thought it would be funny and sort of easy. Turns out color matching isn't that easy, actually. I tried my best, but im not good with color theory and all so near the end i kinda just gave up and did what i did. It looks like i left the bagel in the toaster too long. I only used a few different paints and colors of paint, thought i had to keep getting new black and white with how much i was using them. not whole tubes, just adding more.
Jack Brassard - "Forest Fire"
Paint - 11/30/23
The inspiration for this painting were the wildfires in canada and the north/northeast US that caused major loss, damage and death in the area and around. As far out to here you could see the looming smoke for days around you. It would get hard to breath, it generally sucked and i didnt like it. If i could do it again i would contrast the ground from the tree leaves a bit more. It was incredibly fun to paint fire and smoke, starting with smoke then building up from deep red to a neon yellow. I don't have much else to say. It didn't make me use anything new but I got better at painting trees since last year. My forest painting from Painting 1 sucked in my opinion. At least for the most part.
