Mason Staub "Mountain Sunset"
4x4, Acrylic on Canvas, 2024
This was my first baseline painting. Its called Mountain Sunset. I made it because I like mountains, and I've been to places with really cool mountains. Ive been using it as a reference on things I need to work on for future paintings. I used a 4x4 canvas and started by tracing the mountains. Then I painted the mountains, then the background. Finally I finished with painting the sun.
Mason Staub "Rhino the Chameleon"
16x20, Acrylic on Canvas, 2024
My first actual painting is a painting of a chameleon. Im painting a chameleon because it has been my favorite animal since I was a kid. The reason its my favorite animal is because my dad used to have one as a pet, its name was Rhino, and it was one of my favorite things to have when I was younger. I first started out by picking a reference photo, then I chose a canvas to work on. After that I started by painting the background, half green, and half brown. I then went over those colors with some lighter green and brown to blend it, then I traced the chameleon on it. Finally I'm gonna paint the chameleon. Something that was difficult to do was trace the chameleon and paint the log. To help make sure the log was a straight line I taped it off so I could paint it straight. If I were to start over I would try to blend the background colors more. This artwork is realistic. What makes my artwork unique is it relates back to my personal life and I use my own art style. One thing I love about it is that it looks like the chameleon my dad had, so it brought back some memories.
Mason Staub "A Sunset"
8x10 canvas Acrylic paint and Paint marker 2024
This is my second painting, Its a sunset on a lake. I chose this because Drawing and painting sunsets has always been my favorite thing in all my art classes. I did one similar to this last year in art and it was one of my favorite paintings. My baseline this year was a sunset and it was fun to paint. First I made the background, then I made the water, next I made the tree line using paint marker and acrylic paint, then I made the clouds and the reflection on the water, finally I made the sun and touched up the sky and the water. I gave it to my mom for Christmas. One struggle was trying to get the reflection of the trees on the water.
Mason Staub "For Dad"
8x10 canvas Acrylic paint, Paint marker, and Magazine cutouts 2024
I made this painting for my dad for Christmas. The first part I worked on was the Iowa Hawkeyes logo. I drew it and then painted the inside black and then used paint marker to do the yellow outline. Then I cut it out and glued it on the paper. Next thing I did was cut out the magazine parts and glued them on there. I chose Tome Brady because he's my dads favorite QB. I chose the articles because one talks about the cubs and thats his favorite team, the other one talks about Tiger Woods, and thats his favorite golfer. Last I chose his two favorite bands Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chilly Peppers. Then I put Mod podge over it, and let it dry. One struggle was putting the mod podge on because it was so sticky.
