“Lost in Words”

Old Book
Fake Flowers
Plaster
Paint
I was inspired by how much words can mean. Also my love for flowers of course. I love how much the little things matter in life. I believe that you should always cherish those little things, such as words. I also wanted a sort of old/happy/vintage vibe. I wanted to incorporate flowers in some way from the start. My process was kind of slow. First I molded the plaster onto the mask mold in three layers and waited for it to dry. After that I cut off all of my access plaster on the edges of my mask. Then I painted my mask yellow. I didn’t really like how it was turning out. So I tried to make it better by painting over it with silver. That in my opinion did not look to hot. So I totally covered my mask in book pages. That looked pretty sweet but I wanted some sparkle. So I covered it in modge podge and sprinkled some silver glitter over it. Then I hot glued the flowers on to the top of the mask. The mask turned out better than I planned! Whenever I would realize that something was not going to work out I had to improvise and think about things that would work, and also look like it was planned. One of the creative risks I took was putting on metallic paint over my yellow paint. It made it look way more dirty and musky and dark looking. I wanted it to be something that you look at and it makes you happy. My favorite thing is how everything blended together. I also love that it was not my plan that I originally had but yet it worked out so well. If I could start over, I would get different flowers and position them in a better way. I love how it turned out, but if I positioned them differently they would look more neat. Overall I am pretty satisfied with my mask project.

“Leaves Color, Leaves of Change”
9 x 12
Hot glue
Oil pastels
Watercolor
My source of inspiration for this project was the beautiful warm colors of fall. I love how beautiful the nature around us becomes in fall. Of course, a main factor or focus in fall is the leaves. The beautiful changing of the colors outside and the perfect temperatures. My process of this project was first sketching what I wanted to hot glue. Then I hot glued over my sketch of the leaves and the designs. Then I put oil pastels over it in a ombre design with warm colors. After that, I had to blend it all over for the ombre effect. Next, I made dents in my paper to get a crackle effect. Then, I put black watercolor over my whole project and rinsed that off with water. I let that dry and I was done. My challenge during this was getting the oil pastels to blend together making an ombre effect. This was difficult because I wanted them to look like they floated onto the next color. I learned that when using oil pastels it is good to wash your hands and you need to wash your hands a lot. My favorite thing about my work was how well my crackles on the background of my paper turned out. If I could change one thing I would change my design in the background because it is sort of random design.

Clay, Glaze
My Inspiration for this project was Kimmy Cantrell, Pablo Picasso, and nature. First I shaped my face and pieces I wanted out of clay. Then I scored and slipped the pieces onto the face. Then my clay was fired in the kiln. After that, I choose my colors and applied glaze to my face. Next, my face was fired again. That was the end. A problem that I had to face was at the end of my project the tip of my lightning bolt got hit off. We had to hot glue the broken piece back on. Something I learned during this project was to make sure you do enough or three coats of glaze on your project or else it will not look even throughout. My favorite thing about my project is the sun because the yellow color is very vibrant and yellow is a happy color. If I could start over I would probably change my whole idea because I am not thrilled with the end result.
