Makaela Shaw “My World”
12X12
My idea was I wanted to do a painting of my boyfriend and I, I have so many pictures of us and I didn’t really know what one to choose, but then I came across the photo of us from his homecoming and it was perfect because of the background with the trees, the brush, and the highlights and lowlights that was in this picture. How I created this was I grabbed a 12X12 canvas and painted the entire background a darker green it took 3 coats of paint to get all of the brush marks off of it, I then went ahead and traced the bodies from a transfer paper onto the canvas, I wanted this painting to mainly revolve around us and keep the details from the background out as much as possible, but I still wanted to include the brush and different colors with the trees. Once I had everything traced I then began painting the dress, his dress pants, shirt and shoes because those were all the easiest thing to paint and I saved the detailed parts for last. I then went ahead and started painting the bodies a beige color and then started to work more colors in to create those highlights and lowlights that the sun had created. I then went ahead and started with the hair, he had more of a darker tone to his so I worked on his first and then turned to mine. I then went and painted the details on the face, like the eyes, and lips. One thing I like about my project is the many different colors and the highlights and lowlights in this project. Something unique about this project is how meaningful it is to me and how a picture can mean so much to someone and the details.
Makaela Shaw “Sunset Island”
8X11
My idea was that I wanted to create an island. I went to Flordia back in October and I wanted to paint the island that we were staying on. I didn’t know exactly how I wanted to go about this painting, but I knew that I wanted a sunset type island. I also wanted to incorporate the water from the ocean into this painting. I first started out by painting the sunset, I used a reddish-orangish color and blended those together and then went in with a yellow and orange and blended those together as well, then I went in with a dark blue/black and started creating the ocean and I blended the ocean in with a light blue and white as it went down. Then, after that I began painting two palm trees that cross over each other, and then when the colors of the background dried I painted a sunset that looked like it was setting from a distance and blended the sunset colors going down the ocean. Then I waited till next class to paint clouds over the ocean I blended white with orange and yellow.
