"The Old Telephone"

5x7''

Colored pencil and marker on paper, 2023

The drawing I made was the first telephone. When I got told I needed to have all my drawings in common in some way I was stuck. I didn't want to be basic so i decided to make different inventions the telephone was one of them I wanted to do. I was looking at many photos of the first telephone so I decided to use all of them and use a little of each telephone. Over time and erasing a lot the board the telephone sitting on did evolve after using so many classes trying to make it perfect. I wanted the sizing of everything to look perfect because I didn't want the drawing to look wonky looking. When I thought the drawing was done my teacher explained to me that outlining everything would make everything pop. I'm glad I did it because it looks even better now. To make my drawing look good and straight I used a ruler to make everything even looking. I used many different colored reds and browns to make the "wood" the telephone was sitting on look realistic. When coloring I did every stroke the same way to make the "wood" realistic. Making the shadows of everything was very difficult. I wanted my art to look different than others. I've never seen people do different inventions so I thought it would be good for people to see something different. In some spots, the shading just looks way too dark it doesn't look like a shadow. I really like how this project came out because this is my first one of the year that is complete. The background looks boring but I don't want people to feel overwhelmed when looking at it.

"Dr. Pepper"

9x12"

Colored pencil on paper, 2023

Dr. Pepper is my all-time favorite soda. If I had every pop in the world sitting in front of me, I would choose Dr. Pepper. Since it was my baseline artwork I didn't really know what I wanted to draw. I got my inspiration to draw Dr. Pepper can from thinking about the top things I like in my life. I like to start my day with half a Dr. Pepper then I like to finish it after school on my way home. I started off drawing the shape of the can and then started sketching out the letters on Dr. Pepper can. After I did that I started coloring in the can red. I matched the color red as much as I can to 1Dr Pepper can without trying to make it look pink. Drawing the end and the top of the can was the hardest thing I did. At the end of my drawing I put traced the letters black to the letters looked more bold.

"The Purse"

9x12''

Magazines cut-outs with marker on paper, 2023

My idea started when I wanted to have a drawing about the purse. My teacher wanted us to all have a collage drawing by the end of the year and I wanted to try doing a collage so I did. I have never made a collage so this is my first one. My idea was that I wanted to put a lot of pictures down on the paper to show what goes with a purse. A woman goes with a purse. The purse got invented for women. I put many women on the paper who I think would have a purse in the magazines. When I was cutting out the pictures of the women I used a Xactoknife. That knife made it very easy to cut out the women, instead of using scissors. It was a supper time consuming project and it got a little boring till I started putting the pictures on the paper. I wanted to woman to fit perfectly together on the paper. I think the woman in the paper are all feminists and they would have a purse if they were walking around today. Since there are so many photos on the paper it is a collage. The purse in the middle of the paper is just symbolizing what my artwork means without having to read my artist's statement.

"The Flowers"

5x7''

Printmaking on paper with a maker, 2023

This artwork was the first printmaking artwork I've made. I wanted this artwork to look different. The colors in the photo wouldn't be seen together that much but I think they would have looked good together so I picked the blue and orange. When I was printmaking there was a process. I traced an image of the flower over a styrofoam square to make the image indented on the styrofoam square then the photo was transferred to the styrofoam square. After I did that I put orange ink on a clear plastic surface area. I rolled a roller over the ink making it look like the roller had paint on it. The styrofoam square was on a piece of newspaper so I could roll the roller with the ink on the styrofoam without making the ink go everywhere on the table. After the styrofoam was covered in ink I pressed the orange styrofoam square on the blue paper. I put pressure on the paper to transfer the ink to the blue paper. When I took the pressure off I removed the styrofoam from the blue paper and the ink and image transferred to the blue paper. When I saw my artwork didn't stand out I put a black marker making it look bold.
