Olivia Lopez "Look In The Mirror"
16x12, Charcoal and Pencil, 2023
In-progress
My idea was just to recreate this photo of me and my boyfriend, Thomas. This photo is one of my favorites just because it was a casual day so I wanted to create a physical copy that felt a little more personal then just the picture.
So I started drawing this with pencil and using that to just outline everything and getting a rough sketch going. After getting that I started to use charcoal to darken certain spots and add more detail.
This means a lot to me because this picture is a really good photo that I have of us together and it just feels simple. While feeling simple it also had a significance to me just because of out relationship.
I would say the most difficult thing was defiantly drawing in a realistic style. Nine times out of ten I draw in a more surrealism art style. Another difficult thing was the facial details, once again because they have to match the picture and look real.
This particular art piece is realism. I usually don't draw realism but I wanted to try it out with this photo just to see and experiment with different things. There is nothing special about it to anyone else but for me it is a really special thing that I am happy I drew.
