In this painting, I wanted to depict a topic that I find to be a big issue in society today. The topic I was addressing was more of a broad topic of the unhealthy lifestyles and habits facing America, and the world today. I got this idea because the gym that I attend happens to have a Mcdonald's directly across the street. I started off by painting the entire scene with the gym and the sky and made sure that the very last thing I added was the Mcdonald's sign’s shadow. To me this represents how temptation is everywhere, almost mocking us. One of my biggest challenges would have to be trying to create a feeling of realism by making sure that the order in that I was painting would be representative of the proper layers of the building. Making sure that the windows weren't taken away from the colors painted overtop.
Logan Feuss “10/2”
8x10,” Acrylic on canvas, 2022
In this painting, I wanted to do something that represents a big moment in my life. October 2nd, 2021 was a big day for me that I had spent 5 months preparing for. I started off getting an idea of the layout I wanted. I painted the base of the background before anything else so that it gave the illusion of being behind everything else. After finishing the details on the door and calender I added more shading to the background to give the illusion of focus on the calendar. I also intentionally made the only real color in the painting on the calendar to draw the viewer's attention there. While painting I realized I should've chosen a smaller canvas because it was very difficult to paint the small lines and numbers on the calendar. To overcome this issue I used a paint marker as a way to speed up that process. I did my best to make this a realistic style. My favorite part of the painting is how to me it represents a big moment in my life and being focused towards a goal.
Logan Feuss “mirror”
9x12,” Acrylic on canvas, 2022
In this painting I wanted to portray a character looking in the mirror and not seeing himself. In a symbolic way I wanted to show his real skin was his mask. I got the inspiration for this from the t-shirt I was wearing that day with a similar smiley face to the one portrayed in the painting. The hardest part of the painting would definitely be trying to keep everything in perspective the angle we view the painting. My favorite part of this painting is how most if not everyone can relate to it in some way. Whether it is interpreted as a mask or a true identity, most people can relate to having to act like someone they aren’t. I did my best to make the painting realistic but the smiley face is more abstract. I wanted to make it as dark as possible in the room to look like the face was the light in the room and to add to the contrast.
Logan Feuss “Mushroom”
9x12,” Acrylic on canvas, 2022
In this painting, I did not really have a specific motivation behind it. I just had the idea of a flowy warm look and I knew I wanted to paint a mushroom in one of my paintings. To achieve this look I started off with the background. Simply just sketching out rough lines of where the colors would lay. The hardest part of this painting was needing to paint so many layers of background paint to completely cover the canvas and the sketching lines. There is symbolism in the painting but I chose to leave the interpretation up to the viewer. I took heavy inspiration from the “Super Mario Bros” franchise for the mushroom design. This art style would be best described as abstract because of the bold colors and shapes. I like how this painting is probably the most unique compared to all my previous works, and one of the few paintings that were not realism.
