Utilitarian, Clay, 2024
This is the bowl I made for one of my projects. I started by rolling out a slab of clay and shaping it over a Styrofoam circle until it formed a bowl. Then, I added a few legs to lift it off the ground before firing it in the kiln. After it was fired, I glazed it with four coats of emerald green but only applied three coats around the rim to create a different color effect. I like how the colors turned out after firing. If I could change something, I’d make the legs more even because the bowl has a slight wobble.

This is the vase I made. To make it, I combined two clay slabs and ensured they were connected. I used a rolling pin and a design cloth to press a pattern into the clay, then rolled it into a pitcher shape and added a bottom using the scratch-and-score method with slip. I attached a handle so it could be held easily. After firing it in the kiln, I applied about four coats of Aventurine glaze. I like how the design turned out—it gives the vase a nice look. If I could change something, I’d fix the handle because it’s uneven and off-center.
Clay, 2024
This was my first clay project, and the objective was to create a magnet that could be displayed on a fridge. I started by rolling a small ball of clay in my palm and gently pressing it down to create a flatter shape. Using a clay tool, I added a soccer ball design inspired by an image I found online. After the piece was fired in the kiln, I painted it with black and white to bring the design to life. If I were to redo this project, I would focus on making the colors look neater and more precise. One aspect I really like about this piece is its simplicity, which gives it a clean and its visually appealing look from distance .
This is my very first wheel-thrown bowl and was quite a learning experience. Originally, it didn't look at all like that because I accidentally messed it up taking it off the wheel. Instead of starting over, I decided to run with the mistake and did some designs on the rim, giving it that unique shape. I picked a glaze that looks both natural and warm, accenting the bowl. This whole project taught me to be prepared for mistakes and learn from them to make something beautiful. It's not perfect, but I like it, and I think that it has its own Uniqueness. I made this piece as a bowl but I ended up creating a jewelry holder for my mom.

This is a hand-built coil method-made vase. I wanted this vase to have a simple and natural shape with a unique feel. A blue glaze gives this vase a kind of calm watery look. The texture on the clay added some depth. The vase does not stand up perfectly even, which I like more personal and it shows it's handmade. That taught me to be patient and take my time in blending the coils for a fine finish. I'm proud of how it turned out, and I think that it has a lot of character to it due to its special, handmade feel.

This is one of my wheel-thrown bowls, This is the representation of my work on simplicity, and functionality combined with art. It was a clean form reflecting my approach to creating this, which sparks the question of balance and purpose. I wanted to bring into this bowl how even the most ordinary things can be changed into something far beyond what they were originally intended for. This bowl is more than just a container it's a statement of creativity and design. It reminds me that you can find unique things within the most boring things you see every day. One thing that I would change if I were to do it again would be to use more of a bright color to make it stand out because right now it looks kind of bland. One thing that I really like is the bowls shape, I feel like I got the bowl really even all the way around so It looks really good.
Expressive, Clay, 2024
This is one of my Expressive peices, I created it becuase every art class that I have taken I have created a snake that looks like this in some way sort of as a tradition, so I thought that I should continue that. To make this I rolled up some clay into a long strand and curled it around on a base that I made out of clay, then I used a clay tool and created lines in the body so I could create the color pattern later. After it was fired I sanded off the rough parts and then I rinsed it in water a couple of times and after it dried I used a gold, and ruby color aswell as black to create the pattern. I used a paint with a sparkly feature to give the snake some uniqness. One thing that I like is the style of paint and the pattern beucase it makes the clay look like a snake. One thing that I dont like is that at one point I forgot that I was following a pattern so I kind of started to mess up but I fixed my mistake.
