Karrigan Roth “Behind the Scenes”
11x14, acrylic paint on canvas, 2025
My idea for my portrait was to kind of make something that looked like a printed picture taped up on a wall. I used the picture that one of my dance teachers took of me and my best friend at our dance recital over the summer. When I was sketching out the drawing I made it to small so I made it look like a picture and painted the background red to make it like stand out and then we put like lace on the rim of the canvas and the picture. This artwork means a lot to me because me and the other girl in the painting have been friends fro 7 years and we have so many fun and special memories. I want the audience to think that this painting is two friends making memories. The most difficult part of the painting was the shading of the face because I really struggle with face shading for some reason. If I were to start over I would make sure that I make the drawing as big as the canvas. This is a realistic art piece. It is unique because I put my own spin on it by doing the red and lace.
