Drawing 1

Kody Schutterle "The Ship"

6x6, Black and White, 6/11/24

(IDEA)My idea was to do a fascinating picture I took at a cave I visited in Arkansas.  I got the idea from really liking the cave I visited. I noticed Zach had chosen the waterfall in a different cave we visited in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and thought, "I want to do the ship I saw in the cave from Arkansas." I got a lot of my inspiration from Zach doing the waterfall in the cave and made sure not to do the same picture as him.  I didn't get any ideas from any other artworks I have looked at I just saw Zach chose one of a cave so I thought, "That's a good idea."

(PROCESS) I started by projecting the drawing onto a board putting the paper in front of it and tracing off of that with a white pencil. I then started to shade in everything and brightened everything that needed to be brightened once I got everything shaded. I then worked more on blending the brightness into the darker parts so it flowed and faded well. I used a white pencil and a technique of making everything flow in the same direction so the way you look at it is better seen.

(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) This artwork doesn't particularly mean much of anything it was just a picture that I liked and wanted to do. I want them to appreciate the drawing and try to imagine what this looks like in person. I made it so you can see the dark and light spots and can almost imagine what this may look like.

(ARTISTIC GROWTH) Getting the shading to look right, was a struggle at first but after some practice, it started flowing better. By practicing shading, flow, and visual depth.  I would have done my outline better so the flow and the shading matched better.

(VISUAL VOICE) Landscape. By making it very hard to copy the exact way I did it because I never had a real plan what to do I just went with the flow and went from there. I love how well it turned out it looks decently similar to the image

Kody Schutterle "Super Snake"

6x5, Black and White, 13/12/2024

(IDEA) My idea came from the logo of my favorite car the Ford Shelby GT500.  I got the idea because I wanted to make a logo of some kind. It started off as wanting to do a logo of my favorite bowling ball but it evolved into a car logo because I have an addiction to watching car videos. The only inspiration I had was from my love of cars and the GT500.  I had no real inspiration from another artwork.

(PROCESS) I started by drawing the outline rough, then sketching all of the details. I then moved on to deciding what I wanted to do for black stripes and I decided on black Sharpie. I then began to erase the lines for the sketching. Then fill in the black stripes with the black Sharpie. I used a black Sharpie and a pencil. I didn't particularly use a technique because I didn't know what one would look best.

(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) It has no intended meaning.  I want my audience to think about the logo and go and look up the car. No there is no symbolic imagery in this artwork.

(ARTISTIC GROWTH) deciding where to start, there is just so much on this drawing to sketch that it was a struggle to find where to start.  I just decided to start with the outline shape of the super snake.  I would've taken more time to sketch the outline of the super snake.

(VISUAL VOICE) Realistic. What makes it unique is the fact that a very niche amount of people unless told will know what this drawing is. I just love this logo in general and love the car.

Kody Schutterle "Golden Eagle"

6 by 8, Color, 2024

(IDEA) My idea was to draw one of my favorite animals the Golden Eagle.  I got the idea from failing a drawing of another animal and decided to pick this one. My biggest inspiration was just from liking Golden Eagles from the sheer size of the bird. I got some inspiration from seeing someone else draw a bird (I think).

(PROCESS) First, started out by getting the general outline sketch done. Then, moved onto erasing the lines. Next, started doing the coloring in of the drawing. Finally, I attempted to do some shading and details. I used pastels and I didn't really have a technique.

(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) This artwork doesn't mean anything on a personal level it was just an animal I like. To maybe do some looking in on the Golden Eagle because it is a very cool animal. There is no symbolic imagery.

(ARTISTIC GROWTH) Just about everything I couldn't get anything to work out. I didn't really overcome the struggle I just powered through it and just dealt with it. The way I started out I should've started with the body then did the beak.

(VISUAL VOICE) Realistic. It would be very hard to do it the exact way I did it. Honestly, nothing I did a poor job on this drawing.
