Kinley Naughton's Art Portfolio

I really like flowers and I like painting them so for my first project I thought I should do something I really like. I looked for pictures on google and found one and decided to base my painting off of it. I used acrylic paint and added a little water to make it a better texture to paint some parts. I really like using water because it makes the paint go on smoother and makes the texture in the painting better. The most difficult part was making the water look like water in the vase. If I restarted I would add more detail to the flowers and do something different to the vase. I really wanted to do a painting of my dog so I decided to find my favorite picture of him and paint that. I wanted to do this because my dog is my favorite thing. I wanted to paint him in a different style than I normally do so that I can push myself. I like painting animals so I knew I wanted to do this one first. I used acrylic paint to do this painting I started with the green background. I then did the black and white on the dog. The hardest part was layering all the browns to make it look like the sun was shining on him. I wanted to make the ears have the details that they needed to. The hardest part was doing the small details on the nose and tongue. I wanted it to look like a realistic painting and I think I made that happen. My artwork shows my dog's personality and how he acts. A struggle I had was blending the browns to look cover the black better because at the beginning it wasn’t covering completely. My favorite part is the eyes because they have so many details and complete the look of the painting. I want the audience to see my dog and how happy he is and how much he loves to be outside.

When I was a kid I really liked the show Jake and the Neverland Pirates. When I saw the pirate precious moment I thought it looked like Jake so I knew that was what I wanted to do. I started with the big areas that would be able to get done easily. I did those and then moved on to the tiny details. I used acrylic paint. When I was close to get done I used a small brush to clean up all the lines and make the lines cleaner. I wanted to make the bird look like the bird from the show so I mixed up the colors and made them just like the color on the bird. I really wanted to make the treasure chest look realistic. I thought the floor looked boring so I wanted to make the floor look like a hardwood floor. I mixed a color I liked that looked like a wood color and then painted the floor.  I wanted to make the top of the hair look better because in the show he just has a headband on but I painted a whole scarf. I think I should have sculpted the hair out of clay and glued it on. I really liked how the treasure chest looked.
