Baseline Project

Media: Stoneware and Glaze

My idea for this baseline project was to successfully use a mold correctly. Though it didn't work out all too well as the bottom part of the guitar would break off. My process was pouring slip into a guitar mold and wait a day or two for the clay to dry up and shape into a guitar. When my audience see this artwork, I want them to se that it is a guitar. Hopefully the fact that the bottom is not present doesn't throw people off. The most difficult part of this project was coming up with colors that would work. I wanted the strings to be white, not green. But the glaze lied to me. If I would start over, I would definitely make sure that the bottom doesn't just break off and have it be a fully fledge guitar shape. What makes this unique to my personal style, is that I usually use colors like green, black, or blue with my project. Even without me actually trying to make those colors like this one. What I love about this style is that it makes unique colors and the project looks pretty good with those colors combined.

Ceramics Bust: "The Alien"

My first, original idea was to make a spherical head and put some triangular spikes around it to make it look like the guy's head was the literal sun. But I had trouble with crumpling up the paper to make it into an actual spherical shape so I went with a rectangular shaped head and built off of that. This was inspired by the stereotypical alien look. Big heads, green skin, and black eyes. My process included the taping together of various different object such as a cardboard roll, newspaper, and cans. Using the cans as the shoulders, I placed the roll in the center of the two cans to use as a neck. Taping newspaper onto the cans and roll. Then afterwards adding the clay onto the paper and shaping the head into the alien look. The artwork has no real meaning, but what I want my audience to think when looking at this art piece is that life may come in many different forms and that somewhere in the future we may find people who might look like this. The most difficult thing for me was taking the paper out of the bust. I had to sacrifice the original shoulders for the poject, so that's why there's no shoulders in the picture. I had to remodel a new neck and base for my bust, making sure it was stable for my already heavy and hard head. If I had to change something, is that I will make sure the bust isn't too hard before attempting to take the paper out. What I love about this project is that it's unique. Most people probably made stuff like animals or people, but I was like, "nah, ima make an alien."

Wheel Evidence

My idea was to make a circular object kinda like a small bowl to contain things in. I originally got the idea from watching other people's wheel evidence and thought that I could do the same. It didn't quite evolve the way I planned, I expected them to be bigger but I didn't seem to have enough clay to build them up to be bigger. My artwork doesn't really have a meaning, I went out to make a bowl of some sort and I did so. When my audience sees this artwork, I hope they see some small bowls where they can put stuff like maybe their car keys or some marbles. I don't think anyone would put food in them. There are not any symbiotic relationships in this artwork. The most difficult for me was probably the shaping of the two bowls. It was somewhat difficult to keep my hands centered and on the bowls constantly as the wheel went really fast. Especially with how slippery the process was. But I managed to keep my hands sturdy as the wheel went fast and managed to model two pretty nice bowls. I don't think I would change anything if I were to start over. The style of art is realistic as I didn't include any other elements and just attempted to keep it simple and make bowls. This is unique to my own style as every ceramics piece I make ends up having this greenish-blackish color to it that I find pretty cool, in my opinion. I do love the color, it's probably my favorite part of this artwork.

Large Ceramics Vessel

My idea was to make a large pot. I got the idea because I wanted to make something simple and wouldn't take much time. My process is that I molded a base for my vessel and I shaped the walls straight up. I used the slab roller to flatten my base. When my audience see this, I want them to think of a useful pot they can use to store stuff like liquids or maybe even plants. The thing that was the most difficult for me was the shaping of the sides, like trying to keep them even and not bumpy and all over the place. I overcame this by keeping my hands straight and shaping the sides slower and patiently. If I were to change anything, I'd pay more attention to the bottom of my vessel as that cracked and now it's just a cracked bottom. This type of artwork is realistic as I just kept it a simple pot with no other elements that changed what it is. This is unique to my own style as more of my artwork comes out black, green, or blue usually and to me it's a pretty cool style.
