Mountains

Landscape Painting 8 x 10

Acrylic Paint, Canvas

My first idea was to make a beautiful mountains. I evolved it by adding a pond with some trees and clouds. I think it was a beautiful touch. I just thought it would be a nice setting for this painting.

First I decided what canvas I should use. I picked the smallest one because I thought it would be funny and a nice little painting. Then I pictured a setting in my head outlined some things in black. Then I painted the mountains gray and the ponds blue. Then I spent a while adding details to the water and I also decided to add some sand and I put details on that too. I then painted in the grass then let it dry for the day. Next day I added detail and snow up onto the mountains. Then i added a little beach with some rocks. Finally I added my trees and again let it sit and dry again. The next time I worked on my shadows behind the trees to make it look like there is a dominant light source. I then added clouds to my sky and some darker patches of grade to top it off. Then I was finally done with my first painting.

I want this artwork to tell people to enjoy the view. Especially enjoy and really take in views that will be once in a lifetime. I want people to see this and picture this picture in their minds but real and enjoy it. I want the people who see this think it's a nice little painting.

The most difficult part was the trees. The trees were a little pain the the butt because they were small and difficult to paint. I also had to make the ones that were closer bigger and the ones that were farther smaller to give it more realism. But I think it was worth the struggle. I think I would make it seem like you were looking at a mountain that is super far away and make the trees bigger.

This art style I would say is realistic because it shows something you can see in real life. This is my art style because it's something I imagined in my head.

Happy Bear

Animal Painting 12 x 12

Acrylic Paint, Canvas

My idea was to make a bear. Once I made most of the bear and the grass and trees, I thought it looked boring. So I made it so my bear is holding out his hand. I made honey and a honey jar so it looked like the bear was eating honey. I also think bears are really cool.

First I made the ground a nice green grass then I made the background a darker green. While the green was still wet I used black to make it look like pine trees. I let it dry then I started on the bear. I made the back then the feet. I made the arms and head later on. I waited for it to dry but made some honey since the green was dry. I then added detail but it wasn't complete. I made bushed with orange and red leaves to show that it is fall. Finally I made it so the bear was sitting in a patch of dirt. He looks so happy.

My artwork means happiness. I want people to look at it and get joy out of it. It shows how little things could be in order to be happy. This bear only has some honey but is as happy as can be, he is living the life. There is no symbols beside his smile that made him look happy.

The most difficult part do make was the bear. I had to focus really hard and try to eyeball the bear from a picture I had that was non-copyrighted. If I could change anything I might make a black bear or even a polar bear eating sardines.

This style of art is realistic. It's a real looking bear eating some delicious honey. He's getting his meals in before hibernation. It makes it my own art style because I made some of my own little details. I just love how happy the bear looks.

Da Boys

Portrait Painting 12 x 12

Acrylic Paint, Canvas

This artwork is a picture of me and the buddies when we went out and took Homecoming pictures. I got the idea from my camera roll, I was looking for stuff to paint and I thought this would be a really cool and challenging idea. It evolved by me having more room so I just made my buddies dog on the left. It also evolved because I thought making it so nobody had a face made it a lot more surreal.

I first started making my buddy in the white shirt. I did that so I got the person in the front done so I could make myself (Pink shirt on the right). I had to make many different mixtures so I could make peoples skin color, pants color, and shoe color. It was trial and error but I just went from the right to the left and it worked really well. I then thought there was too big of a space on the left so I put in my buddies golden retriever named Duke. Doing the painted I had to be very careful and use different sizes of brushes in order to make things smooth and nice.

This artwork means enjoy your friends while they are still with you. Soon enough we will all be splitting up to go live our lives. Some may stay in contact but some may not. I want my audience to see this and visualize how much time they have left with their friends and make every second with them count. Friends are everything to me outside of my family. There is no symbolic imagery in this artwork.

The most difficult part was getting everybody in place and getting their pants and body the right size. Multiple times I messed up and had to wait for it to dry and then just paint right over it. I solved this problem by using different brush sizes and being very careful and follow the picture as well as I could. If I could change anything I would change the floor because in the picture were on a dirt patch and it would look better if I put that in there.

This style of art is realistic but with a hint of surreal. It shows because I have all the people in the line that look normal. The only non-realistic thing about it is that they have no face. It saved me more struggles but also made it surreal which is one of my favorite art styles. It's my personal style because it's me and many of my buddies in a line. I love everyones head and hairstyle in the painting, I got their head-shape and hair near perfect to the picture.

Helmet of Honor

Still Life Painting 12 x 12

Acrylic Paint, Canvas

My idea was to make a samurai helmet because I love Japanese samurais. I got this idea because I have two katanas (Japanese swords) so I thought I would paint something to go along with it. So I settled for a samurai helmet for my still life so I can put it up next to my katanas.

So first I painted my background black with my biggest brush. I then waited for that to dry then I made the face shape. I then added detail once the face dried. I then had to use a gold color to make gold part of the helmet at the top. I then made the metal below the chin and on the head. Once I got all of that done I let it dry again. Then I used a slightly darker shade to make the points at the top so you could see the all the points. After that I did all the green, yellow, and blue dots all around the helmet.

This artwork means honor. I want this to show that honor is beautiful, protective, and scary. I want people to see this and realize that honor does not always have to be big. The whole helmet is a symbol, it has so many symbolic parts like the dots, the oni face, and the crown all are symbols of something different.

The most difficult part was making the crown. The paint was kind of watery and I didn't think that black on the gold would make it look like shapes on the crown. So I problem solved and spread out the gold so some of the black from the background made it look like there were shapes and lines on the crown without using straight black. I would change the dots if I could start over.

This art style is realistic. Helmets like these were worn by samurais a long time ago. The picture is based off a real helmet and it has details to make it look more real. It's my personal style because I love Japanese culture and helmets that have the red face and gold and silver along with it. I just love the face, the darker red details make it look awesome.
