Colton Penniston "Elk Landscape"
16" by 20" ,Acrylic on Canvas, 2025
I got my idea by looking up painting and I saw a black and white elk painting. That painting gave me an idea to paint some trees and other things on the inside of the elk. I also love animals and landscaping so that also made me want to paint the elk. First I started with the painting the background black, then I traced the shape of the elk and then painted the inside of the elk a tan color for the base color. Then I started with all of the other colors until I liked what it looked like. I used oil paints, multiple paint brushes, canvas, pencil. When I see an animal and a landscaping in a painting it calms me. I want my audience to be calm or happy when they see my painting. The most difficult part for me was the trees because it is hard to make them look good. I practice the trees on a separate piece of paper because I wasn't very good at making trees in the beginning. I would change the background because I don't like the way the two main colors go together. I Would say that is a Realistic and Non Human art style. I like the Shape of the animal because it makes the painting different.
