GENESIS ORIGINAL BOW
We have club bows available for loan. We do ask for a $100 deposit which will be returned when the equipment is returned, undamaged. We STRONGLY recommend, however, that each competition archer (grades 6-12) have their own bow. It is challenging for a competition archer to maintain consistent accuracy using a loaner bow. Each bow shoots differently depending on knock point, draw weight, life cycle of components and arrow rest.
*5th graders will use club bows and they will stay at the school.
The Genesis Original compound bow can be purchased new online for $160-$200-ish from a host of online retailers. You can also purchase a bow direct from the factory at www.genesisbow.com and if you go that route you will be able to customize the colors of your bow. You can also find them at most sporting goods retailers such as Scheels, Cabelas, R&R Sports, etc. Sometimes you can find them used on Facebook Marketplace, ebay or Craigslist. I would recommend NOT spending over $120 on a used Genesis since a used one could be long overdue for a new string/cable which can run $40 or more.
Just remember the bow must be the Genesis Original and NOT the Genesis Pro or Genesis Mini. The Genesis Original is the ONLY approved NASP bow.
Camo colored risers are ok to buy, but NASP rules require that the face of the riser (the surface that is facing back at the archer) be painted a solid color or taped. This is to prevent using the camo markings as a sight.
Other than adding a wrist sling (optional) the bow can not be altered from factory specs. You cannot put on a different style rest, add stabilizers, put on a sight, etc.
NASP APPROVED ARROWS
Easton factory assembled Genesis XX75 arrows (aka 1820) for the NASP program have a specifically designed target point(arrow tip) to prevent floor marring, specific fletching size and shaft length. If you have your own bow, I would recommend buying your own arrows as well. If you purchase arrows locally, they will have the Genesis and NASP logos on the arrows. Online retailers such as Shipley Outdoors have NASP approved sections within their website, which makes it easier.
We will supply arrows for team practices and tournaments but you are welcome to use your own NASP arrows for practice and tournaments and if you wish to shoot outside of school practices.
As archers improve and groups shrink, there will inevitably be damaged arrows. Replacement nocks are widely available, they are called N Nocks, and come in a variety colors. These nocks are designed for the XX75 Genesis arrow. If nocks are replaced, it is important to rotate the nock so that it is indexed the same as the other arrows.
It is also common for vanes to come off or be damaged. We recommend that you have enough arrows that if you have a vane come off, you can replace that arrow and get back shooting. Once the season is over, you can take your arrows in to a bow shop or archery department to have them replaced. You can also replace them yourself if you have the right equipment for doing so, but again, NASP has strict rules about what size vanes you can use and how they can be oriented on the arrow. If you have your own arrows but don't have any extra, we'll get you a club arrow that matches as close as possible.
TOURNAMENT KIT - Includes: Genesis Bow, Goldring Case & 6 Arrows
FINGER PROTECTION
NASP archers can and do shoot successfully with bare fingers. However, archers may begin to feel pain in fingers when shooting a high volume of arrows, which will certainly be the case in both practice and in competitions. Shooting gloves or finger tabs (without metal or rigid plastic) may be used for NASP.
You should avoid using cloth, grippy, thick leather or bulky shooting gloves. There are many different types of gloves and finger tabs on the market. Here are just a few options:
the Damascus Glove (can be purchased from Shipleys Outdoors in both Adult and Youth sizes)
Seektop Glove (link to amazon)
NEET Glove (link to NEET website, comes in YOUTH and ADULT sizes and several colors)
Cordovan leather finger Tab (link to 3riversarchery)
REPLACING BOW WEAR PARTS
The Genesis arrow rest by design, takes significant amount of wear and needs to be replaced periodically throughout the season. The metal portion of the rest will begin to sag or bend and by design, grooves will begin to wear into the soft black plastic plunger. Keep in mind when ordering a rest there is Left Hand and Right Hand options, they are NOT interchangeable.
It is also recommended that the string/cables be replaced periodically. It really just depends on how many shots are on the bow. If there is fraying in the string or there is separation of the serving, it is time to replace the string. You can purchase a factory replacement string/cable set for around $40, or a custom set for around $75. The custom strings are made of better fibers to prevent stretching and you can also customize the colors when going this route.
BOW STRING WAX
Applying a small amount of bow string wax to your bow string will help keep it from fraying and significantly extend its life. It only needs to be applied periodically. We will have plenty of bow string wax for the team but if you shoot a lot you may want to have your own. Be careful to not get wax build-up around the cams or place it on the serving. Here is a great video on the proper way to wax your bow string.
SHOES
NASP rules state that you must wear close toe shoes.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
Wrist Sling-used to prevent the bow from potentially flying out of your hand.
Arm Guard- used to prevent string from hitting your arm. If correct form is used, this isn't typically a problem. Also, long sleeves add some protection.
Eye patch or blinder-These come in several forms, but this could be used for archers who are cross eye dominant. For example, if I was right handed but left eye dominant, I could use this so I didn't have to close my left eye while shooting. Some wear a simple eye patch that you can pick up at Walmart or a pharmacy. Others attach to a ball cap bill, and you would have to buy this from a specialty archery shop like Lancaster Archery Supply.
We do have some equipment on hand and can replace worn or broken equipment.

Vanes for arrows

String Replacement-you provide the string and we'll install it.
