This is my magnet, as you can see, it is a grey butterfly. I wanted to do something not too basic but also kind of laid back. I used the needle tool, airdry clay, and paint. This piece symbolizes transformation and maturity. Butterflies symbolize transformation and the grey symbolizes maturity. It was confusing to make the wings, I had a hard time with that. I could not figure out how to make the shape and curve them more to face away from one another instead of being connected. I think if I could go back and change things, I would put way more work into the wings. They look unnatural.
This is my 3D painting. This was one of the pieces I put a lot of effort into. I used clay, the kiln, the needle tool, loop tool, Sponge, and rubber rib. I'm not exactly sure what this symbolizes. I think I was going for feeling trapped, influenced, and pressured. The rose and its light colors symbolizing purity and innocence. The thorny vines surrounding it in the background symbolizing being trapped. Finally, the reddish brownish colored spirals are meant to sybolize something like people. I think the over all message is to be pressured into doing something you do not want to. I think the hardest part was to keep things stuck on the background. The rose and the spiral in the top left corner were the hardest things to keep on. If I could go back I would rough up the surface more and add more slip. If I could go back one more time, I would change the colors to be more vibrant.
This is my wheel work. I used clay, the pottery wheel, needle tool, ribbon, wood modeling tools, wire cutter, sponge, and rubber rib tool. I think these pieces were harder than the other two. It was difficult making the clay center on the wheel and i had to get some help from the teacher too. I used the glazes Cosmic tea dust, artic blue, and blue midnight. I do not remember the last one. The bowl, the galaxy one, was supposed to look like that. However, the cup was supposed to look as if it had eyes on it. I am ok with this design though, It reminds me of mold and I cant place why I like it so much. I really like how both of these turned out, I think its one of my favorite peices from this year.
This is my large vessel. I am extremely happy with this one. I have used clay, needle tool, loop tool, wood modeling tools, the clay extruder, sponge, and rubber rib. I made this to symbolize self image, specifically body image. The face represents a face or yourself. Then, its surrounded by flowers which have grown onto the face. This symbolizes the things you don't see about yourself, the beauty. I love the array of flowers specifically the way I arranged them. I used River rock and an array of blues, purples and cooler colors. The colors were supposed to make the flowers pop out to make sure you see the beauty. I think If I could go back I would work on it longer and maybe stay for quest to work, anything to actually do with the project I wouldn't change.
