Carson Ferguson 12x10 "Drawing" Graphite, 2023
I wanted to find a photo of a younger me, because me personally, I think I was an adorable child. I got the idea by asking my dad if he has any photos of me that I could draw for an art class, and he gave me a photo of me destroying some cake on my first birthday.
I started out with making a very light outline, just simple stuff like my body, the chair, etc. Then I started to shade the chair and draw the detail in the chair. I moved on to my shirt and the table thing I had in front of me, I drew the raiders logo that was wrinkled on my shirt. Then I started getting a good shade of gray/black on my shirt. When I was doing the table it was a little difficult, the cup holder and where it dipped was confusing to shade.
Then I moved onto my face/hair (and arms). I drew my hairline then the ears, eyes, and other major details like that. Then I drew the cake that was on the table, my face, hands, etc. I finally started to shade my face using some charcoal, erasers, and pencils. I shaded everything with a charcoal stick, a blending stick, and a pencil.
There is no “deep” or “hidden” meaning in my drawing, it is exactly what you see. Little me munching on some cake. I loved how it turned out but I feel I could have done better with the face shape outline. I did not try to stick to a style of art as well, I did what felt comfortable to me and that is what I think makes my art unique to me.
