Cali Dykema (Whale Clay)
5x2 Paint, Clay 2024
I got the idea because a whale is one of my favorite animals. Just because they are nice pretty animals and they belong in the ocean and the color of whales is one of my favorite colors.
I first got my clay and made it into the shape of the whale. I waited for it to be fired than once it was done I took it out. I then sanded it down. I got my paints picked out and then I painted it and waited for it to dry.
It means a lot because I love the ocean and blues is one of my favorite colors and I think whales are one of the coolest animals that are in the ocean.
The most difficult part about doing it was getting the tail and the fins to stay on so they didnt fall off in the kilm. Putting the dots on was also hard because I had to wait for it to dry so I didnt mess up the blue.
Cali Dykema (Bowl Clay)
5x5 Clay, Glaze 2024
This was something we had to make but I got the color because I wanted the bowl to pop out and stick out. I didn't want anyone's bowl to be like mine so I glazed it a bright color.
I rolled out my clay and then shaped it into the shape I wanted it to. I waited for it to be fired and once it was done I sanded it down. I put the glaze on it and then I had to put it back into the kilm and wait for the glaze to have shinny.
It means something to me because I could use the bowl for many things. I could use it for jewelry just little things like that.
The hardest thing was getting it into its shape because it took me a while to figure out the shape I wanted.
Cali Dykema (Vase Clay)
3x4 Clay, Glaze 2024
This is also something we had to make but I like it because of the green and the pattern I picked. I think it made it pop with the pattern and I think the green would look cool if you put flowers in the vase.
I rolled out my clay. Then I picked the pattern I wanted and folded it to make a vase. I added the bottom to it and let it dry. Once it was done with the kilm then I glazed it and put it back in the kilm.
It means something to me because I love getting flowers and now I have a cool-looking vase I can put the flowers in. It also means something because I made it and I spent my time on it.
The hardest thing was trying to get the pattern to stay in the vase because if you touch it the pattern came out.
