Bella VanDrew "Cat inside of tutu"
8x10, Acrylic on canvas, 2026
For my art project I decided I wanted to paint a picture of my cat when she was a baby. I found the picture on my moms instagram page from years ago. It's a picture of my cat Holly playing inside of a pink tutu. The reason I decided to paint this is because this cat and I basically grew up together. She is only a few months younger than me. She will be 15 years old this December. The process for making this painting come to life was I first started by stalking my moms instagram to find a picture of holly. I then found the size of the canvas I wanted to use and painted the background a very light baby pink. After that I sketched Holly out and painted her. Last thing I did was I added both light and dark colors to add different shadows around the painting to make it look more like the original picture. For me the most difficult part was getting the background right. Mixing all the colors together to get the perfect pinks wasn't easy for me. The part I love most is just the fact that it is a painting of the cat I've always gotten to grow up with.
Bella VanDrew "Bagle and strawberries"
8x10, Mixed media, 2026
For this art project I have decided to do a mixed media project of a bagel and some strawberries. The reason I decided to do this is because I just love both bagels and strawberries so much but this picture was taken at my friends house during the Mississippi Valley Fair week. That week I spent the night at this friend's house every night and all I ate was pretty much just strawberries and bagels. The process for making this project was to first start by finding the picture which I did pretty easily considering I was doing mixed media so I knew I wanted an object. I grabbed a cardboard piece and began to sketch out my bagel and strawberries. After I got it all sketched out I picked out some magazines and began to cut out different shapes and sizes of all the colors I needed. After I got all that glued down I realized something didn't look right about the bagels. I thought this because I didn't like how the white paper looked on top of the tan to be the cream cheese so I ripped that off and instead used some white paint. And that ended up looking a lot better. The most difficult part was getting every single piece I needed cut out and glued down. My favorite part is the fact that there are 2 things I love to eat and it has a little bit of memories from the summer with my friends.
Bella VanDrew "Peirce"
Arcylic, 2026
For my base line painting I decided to do a painting of my cat peirce. She is a long haired tuxedo cat. I found her when she was a tiny baby only about a month old. In the picture she is sitting next to her cat bed. There was nothing to difficult about this painting I just did a quick sketch of my cat and painted it. The colors are very simple considering most I used was black and white. The reason I choose to do a picture of my cat peirce is because she is my baby. I love her so much. I never expected to find her on the side of the road and then end up being able to keep her. I found her about 2 years ago and every since then she has still been the same. So I really liked that I decided to do her as my base line painting. I also feel like I did pretty good for it just being a quick sketch into a painting.
