KT Taylor "Not like Us"
9x12,Black and white, 2024
(IDEA)My idea was to sketch out drawings of the rapper drake but in this particular moment there was an music beef going on between him and Kendrick Lamar. The song he made named "Not Like Us" inspired me to create this image. This image evolved over time by me seeing different lyrics that the artist kendrick Lamar names in the song about drake. I seen fan art on tiktok about this particular situation but not anyone that has does the same thing as me with putting many differnt images in one though.
(PROCESS)My process through this image was difficult but very time consuming I started with the Not like us, and begin moving to the GOD, then the 69 and and jailsuit, finally I put the body of BBL Drizzy. I first started this with an sketch with just pencil and paper then after I began micing paints and using paint brushes. I made sure I didn't use much paint so it wouldn't be as sloppy.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) To me this art is an part of the music culture is shows an very important moment in history where it shows that competition still happens in the music industry even between the greatest. It also represents the lies that could be told to you but not showed. I want the audience to look at this as an funny but intersting art. I want them to think about what he did and why the rapper Kendrick Lamar said what he said about him.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) I think the most difficult part of this image is trying to keep all the letters and drawings inline with everything and kinda space out so it wouldn't look all bunched together. By starting to look at it from an audience point of view and taking a couple of steps back. I would move the O in the God over more so it wouldn't be so close to the prison suit. I also would've used an ruler to make this art way better for the audience.
(VISUAL VOICE) realistic, I personally think the thing that makes this art special is that its about the HipHop culture and represents what side I choose during the time this event is taking place in the industry. I love that I can express how I feel about drake in a drawing and not words.
