I got the inspiration to paint “The Little Duck” because my best friend has been wanting duck for a project. So I figured it would be cool to paint one because it would be something new and a challenge. I first started with painting the whole canvas white and swiped a little blue here and there to create a baby blue white ombre. I then went on to outline where the duck should be and how he would look. I took a pencil and outlined and circled shapes to draw the duck on the canvas. After I had it the way I wanted it, I started to paint. Starting with a yellow base color I outlined over the pencil and filled it in. Then I started to shade and highlight. I started with the chest of the duck. I added light yellows and whites to create an illusion of light coming to it. Then I added shading to the underside of the wing, under the duck, and the backside of the neck. I then started to add on the eyes, beak, and feet. Those took me some time to do because they were so precise, but I ended up finishing it and am very proud of it. When you see my painting “The Little Duck” I don’t want you to see exactly what I say to see, I think you should be able to interpret it in any way you want to. The thing I struggled more with was probably the feet, beak, and eyes. They all had to be in the right proportions, that if I messed them up it would ruin the whole painting, so I tried and tried until it was just right. The feet probably took me the longest because of the shading and side of them. This painting is a realistic painting. I love how I was able to create it to look 3D and all the little details of highlights and shading. I also really like the background, it seems so calm like it belongs in a child nursery.
