My idea for this piece came from Mrs.Dunlavey were looking at broken art for inspiration and I saw this one piece that was a bunch of hexagons and they were put together to make a picture but as the picture went on it like flowed away and that’s when I got the idea for this piece. I started with painting the background a yellowish color to represent a woodish color. Then I started with drawing out the larger triangles then started with painting them. I started with the left eye then did the right eye in a different skin tone then continued to the nose. This part was particularly hard because I wasn’t sure how to shade or highlight it to make it look right but eventually, I got it. Then I moved on to the mouth, this part was also a little tricky because I wasn’t sure how to make the mouth look like it was in proportion but eventually after a couple of tries, I got that too. After finishing the facial parts I made a bunch of different triangles and painted them all different shades of skin tones and made it look shattered. I outlined them all with sharpie and then I was done. This artwork represents insecurities. All the broken pieces are the rest of her and everything she doesn’t like about herself and everything you can see like her eyes and nose and mouth are the only things she really likes about herself. The hardest part of this piece was defiantly the nose and trying to match colors. I eventually gave up on matching the skin colors and just decided to make them different. This is an abstract are piece and I love how I can show how I feel and others feel about themselves and have a voice for others who can’t use their own.
